Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Feb 20, 2008 9:30 am In two of our bedrooms we have walk-in robes with standard doors which are fine. However then in the other two bedrooms as well as the laundry - plus another robe in our master bedroom we have ones which will have sliding doors.
Now keeping in mind that in our master bedroom they will be right on show, the two other bedrooms will be used by babies/toddlers/children and the laundry is going to be fairly well used what would you all suggest for the doors? The builder has told us that basically anything is possible - so we can choose from "plasterboard" type doors that are painted to match the wall colours (have aluminium frames around them) - builder said that these are what he would use if he had young children; mirrored doors; painted timber doors in the same shade as our trims. Re: Wardrobe Doors 2Feb 20, 2008 10:37 am My kids are not hyperactive or destructive in any way, but in a rental we had some time ago they managed to dislodge two big mirrored sliding doors just by opening and closing them in the wrong way. They were in immediate danger of collapsing outwards. Sliding doors save space, and I like them, but make sure you get good ones ! Re: Wardrobe Doors 3Feb 20, 2008 10:47 am Personally I see mirror doors and children as major work!!!!!
The Windex and rag would have to be on hand all day long! I like sliders as well, painted the wall colour so they blend in, I have no idea why we choose to make our w/doors stand out, they have no appeal to them. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Wardrobe Doors 4Feb 20, 2008 11:16 am We are getting Stanford sliding doors in BIR's in minor bedrooms which will then be painted same colour as walls. I like the look of timber doors too but didn't seem right for our house.
Sliding doors are much more practical and save space, no allowing room for door to open into. I would never do mirror sliders - except maybe in a main bedroom if you don't have a WIR, - they may look beautiful in display home but kids, pets, even adults fingerprints: unless you LOVE cleaning !!! It cost $600 to upgrade to Stanford doors, for 2 bedrooms, 1BIR in each about 2m wide each. Re: Wardrobe Doors 5Feb 20, 2008 1:12 pm I have to disagree with Michelle here and say I love the mirror sliding doors - especially in rooms that face south they create a lot more light.
We had them in our previous apartment - it only took about 2 min of cleaning per double door set with some metho diluted in water (spray bottle) and an old rag. After 4 years - we're in! Re: Wardrobe Doors 6Feb 20, 2008 4:30 pm I dont suppose anyone has hume smartrobe sliding doors?
Ive spent considerable time trying to find out what the frame colours are like (have to specify out of white, primose or chrome) but noone seemed to have the answer seemed like there wasnt a standard light cream colour I wanted speaking of robe doors I recently saw a gorgeous french provincial huge studded mirror over 2m x 1m approx $1350 each. the shop owner said some people are buying several and making robe doors out of the them, those people must have endless $$ would be gorgeous though Re: Wardrobe Doors 7May 15, 2008 10:36 am Mirror doors, walls etc belong in bordellos. High quality solid doors from any of the chains such as doors-a-plenty, doors plus etc, would be a better solution. Paula Re: Wardrobe Doors 10May 15, 2008 10:52 am I would go timber doors painted to match the trim.
Mirrored doors are bad feng shui. Well not in themselves they're not but it's bad fung shui to be able to see yourself in the mirror from your bed. Definetely agree- seeing myself in the mirror before I get out of bed in the morning - bad start to the day!! Especially after a late night the day before!! She lives on her own and doesn't usually worry about shutting doors, once she forgot when family was staying with her, got out of bed and reflected herself full frontal to everyone in the living area 'Well rounded' lady in her 50's - not sure that's what the guests really wanted to see first thing in the morning She still hasn't lived it down Re: Wardrobe Doors 15May 15, 2008 10:36 pm Rajasthan Doors Mirror doors, walls etc belong in bordellos. How do you get to see what you look like without a full length mirror in the bedroom?
Atm we are living with rellies and we have the only full length mirror in the house in our bedroom. Everyone comes in to check how they look and often comment that they didn't realise how much they relied on the mirror. In our new house B2 and B3 have mirrored BIR sliders. My DD spends a lot of time in front of the mirror so it will save her getting cold feet on the bathroom tiles . Re: Wardrobe Doors 18May 18, 2008 9:37 am DeeElle Mirrors in bedrooms are a must. A few people commented that they had problems with mirrored robe doors and their wireless connection. something about it causing signal problems. Anyone in the know want to comment further?
One of my g/f's had mirrored doors in her 3 teen age daughters bedrooms and they loved it. I could see it being a real fingerprint nightmare though. I have a full length " from the farm" mirror and it is very handy. I love the idea of sliding doors for robe recesses though. Could have done with that in our last house as the boys bedrooms were not that big. Re: Wardrobe Doors 20May 18, 2008 7:53 pm Paula DeeElle Mirrors in bedrooms are a must.
