Hi folks,
I've just bought my first house and I am wondering what people's experience is with my 2 questions.
1.
I have a brick townhouse. On the ground floor is a bay window with 4 double hung windows covered with old flyscreen. The screen has aluminium 'bars' in a square pattern which I'm sure was the 1980 version of security when the building was new (is old and loose now). The locks on the actual windows don't really work (some frames are damaged/broken). Hence I am looking to get it all replaced.
The 2 hinged screens on the solid entry doors are pretty bad too, so my initial thoughts were to replace the 2 door screens and bay window screens with Crimsafe or Invisigard. I've been quoted $4,400 and $3,300 respectively for this.
It's been suggested to me that if I get the double hungs replaced at the same time as all the screens, while it may be more expensive in one go it could be better value overall when economies of scale kick in?
2.
I'm now thinking a 'quick win' to improve the security immediately is to replace just the 2 solid entry doors with stronger doors and locks. This would cost a LOT less than replacing the screens and bay window, and could be a good solution for a few months until I can save for the bigger job?
Looking forward to hearing your experiences and comments!
