Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Dec 02, 2011 10:43 am Hi, before we decided to owner build we looked at a number of double glazed suppliers before choosing Trend Windows. Stegbar was our first choice but the sales lady advised that their windows were out of our price range. Still not sure how she worked that out without viewing our plans or asking our budget, maybe she was telepathic. After delivery and installation we noticed the windows had a number of faults including poor mitre joints, badly installed glazing, misaligned vent locks and a number of other issues. Basically, the windows looked like they had been put together by a group of work experience students. After contacting Trend they came out and fixed a number of the quality issues but we've never been completely happy with the finished product. The removal and re-installation of the frames and glazing units also resulted in a number of nicks, dents and other small scratches. It's been a while since this all happened and I'm just wondering what other owner builders on the forum would do in this situation? Complain... that's what I would expect a customer to do if we let them down. Was the money you paid OK? In Australian dollars? The full amount? Or did you pay them a little short, did you make them wait for their money? I bet you did not!!! Call head office...(and call Stegbar's head office too... how rude!) Ed "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy. Ed Hi Ed, thanks for the reply, I can see where you're coming from, we did complain and the results didn't meet our expectations either. I can't see Trend coming out and replace all our windows or fix them to a standard we're happy with unless we take them to court. Unfortunately the terms and conditions of sale did not give us any chance to hold payment. We're not naive by any means but owner building has been an experience. I've got a very long list of things to do differently next time including getting our windows from you At the time we thought the Stegbar experience was pretty funny. We were neatly dressed, had showered, were wearing deodorant and the showroom was relatively quiet. We walked in with a set of plans, a generous budget and got that response. Had we known what was going to happen with Trend quality wise we would have made more of an effort to get a quote from Stegbar. They can fix your windows to a reasonable standard, it just takes time and a little more care. I would contact head office 02 9840 2000 . Often the branches don't have the same standard, nor the necessary authority. When you come to see us, don't worry about the shower & deodorant, we see builders every day . We aren't going OB but using a small builder & were insistent on selecting our own double glazed windows after seeing how cheap/nasty the windows are that big builders use. When we got to Stegbar (Adel also) we recieved some very rude service, the young lady there was refusing to give us a quote as she didn't want to double quote since we were going through a builder. She looked at us like we were scum....Anyway we said "that's fine, forget about it..." & headed toward the door, she changed her tune then. After that we never would have used them anyway but their product did look good. How dare someone say you that their product is out of your price range I'd hit the roof! We chose Rylock, most $$ of the lot but after looking at 4x different suppliers they were by far the best. We did actually quite like the windows Trend made though... Perhaps we should have had rylock quote us as well. Re: Trend Windows Build Quality - Adelaide 9Dec 06, 2011 12:07 am Broom ..........Who did you end up going with? And yes, They do seem like great quality windows, Mrs P_D and I were looking at the Rylock book again tonight and we've gone from "Yes, stacker sliding doors it is" to "Hmmm....Bifolds do look nice" P_D . Got a quote for the windows for the entire house. Didn't really know how much it "should" of been, but was very pleasantly surprised at the price. He quoted.......... Double glazing to all windows except laundry and bathroom Two of these windows (west facing) to ALSO have high performance glass Three large double glazed stacker doors As we haven't finalised the window sizes yet, we thought that they were in some regards putting the cart before the horse, but with the sizes he used to price up the quote, realistically we cannot see too many changes so the final price should be well within the ball-park of his "quote". FWIW, Ryloc now have quite an impressive display at the Home Improvement Centre on Anzac Hwy. P_D . Re: Trend Windows Build Quality - Adelaide 14Feb 26, 2012 12:43 am Pepsi_Drinker - Our architect had suggested Rylock as well. However, the day we went both staff member were busy with customers that looked like they had made prior appointment so, we were left to wander around the place without getting a chance to speak with anyone. Can I ask who you dealt with at Rylock? Re: Trend Windows Build Quality - Adelaide 15Feb 26, 2012 9:48 am Hi babygirl, PM Sent. Regards, P_D . Also, thought it would have been nice to be able to talk to someone direct if need be as the Centre isn't manned, right? So, we went to their Kidman Park office instead that time but then both person there were busy in office with customers and we still never got to speak with anyone. Was going to wait until our architect finalise the drawings before going in again but from the sounds of it, it wouldn't harm to get an initial quote based on your earlier post. We've not done much research in this area yet but is what the price difference on average between using double glaze and just (single paned) high performance glass? Re: Trend Windows Build Quality - Adelaide 17Feb 27, 2012 1:43 am Hi babygirl03, They DO have a small desk / office at the HIC, but it wasn't staffed when we went in the middle of the week. Whether that was because 1) They don't staff it 2) They only staff it on the weekends or 3) It was still really new and they hadn't got around to putting someone there yet, I don't know. I'd 100% say go and have a chat with DG, even if it's too early to get a quote, he'll at least guide you in the right direction, and I always figure the more information you have the better. At least that way, when you talk to your architect YOU'LL have an idea of what you want and will be able to lead him in YOUR direction instead of him just using "Brand X" because "I always use them". We didn't get a price for single-glaze high-performance glass, Rylock was 100% sure that double-glazing was the way to go, both from a cost AND energy-efficiency perspective. With the exception of our two west-facing windows, these he suggests double-glazing with one layer of the high-performance glass. The additional cost of the high-performance glass for these two windows was surprisingly little extra. (Check your PM's) Hope this helps, P_D .
