Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Nov 28, 2011 5:20 pm just one day after having our large piece of upside glass installed we find that it has a large crack in it. The piece apparently weighs about 120kg and is laminated comfort plus glass and it appears about 12mm thick. The gyprockers were working with their scaffolds in the area on the day and I suspect that they knocked it with their platforms though they totally deny knocking it. The pictures attached show the size of the crack and where their scaffold sits in proximity to the glass ( second pic - cracked area circled in red). The last picture shows the vertical platforms spanning the scaffold which were in the approximate proximity to the crack. The crack is not on the inner pane of glass but on the outer pane. Are there any glass specialists here that can tell me if a knock on the inside will make the outer pane to crack. I dont want to have to pay to replace the piece which i assume will be quite expensive if the gyprockers are to blame. Re: My upstairs glass is cracked 3Nov 28, 2011 9:54 pm ed @ ecoclassic Best guess is an impact from the outside... Ed I thought about that but the glass as thick as it is would have had to have had a huge impact and probably from close up, if they were standing on the roof of the portico they would have dented the trim deck and the crack was noticed on saturday after the gyprockers had finished Re: My upstairs glass is cracked 5Nov 29, 2011 9:26 pm amgsl55 glass was replaced today, the glazier reckons there may have been a knock to the outside pane on installation and with the heat cracking occurred. No mention of cost Looks like a shaded area, or my first guess would have been heat stress. Very frequent in ComfortPlus.
