Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Nov 28, 2011 1:15 pm Does anyone have any experience with Vantage SoundOUT windows? I recently ordered some of these windows and when they arrived last week I was quite surprised by the manufacturing. There are several large gaps in the sash frames (as seen in the attached pic). I have discussed this with the local manufacturer who is telling me that it's neccesary to notch the frame in order to be able to mount the sash. As far as I can tell this will seriously detract from the functionality as a specialty noise reduction window. The sales brochure specifically states "All sashes are sealed both sides on all four edges for maximum sound reduction. There are no holes at the meeting stiles." The brochure and the reality don't seem to align.... I am currently refusing to allow them to be installed but I am under a lot of pressure from both the suplier and installer who are saying that there is nothing that can be done about it. Am I right in my stance that there should be no gap in the frame? Like you I was shocked to see this gap in the window after reading all the promotional blurb about how well sealed they were. However there are little black plastic plugs that fit into this gap to seal it up. You put the windows in (you need that gap cut to lift the windows into the tracks they sit in, so the cuts do serve a purpose) and then once they are in you can cut the plastic plugs to size to completely fill the gap. The plugs don't have the black brush material that seals the rest of the window but they seem to effectively plug the gap. Funny how none of this is ever mentioned in the promotional material for the windows. It's all supersealed this and no noise that, but no mention of the big gaps plugged up by 2 cents worth of cheap plastic clips. Anyway, I have found the windows to be great and they cut the noise in my front rooms from unbearable to be in, to a distant rumble when trucks and buses roar past. Re: Vantage SoundOUT windows? 3Nov 29, 2011 12:40 pm Thanks Miloolimm, There hasn't been any mention of plastic clips or plugs. I'll get back onto them and see what they say. Good to hear that you got some decent results from them, if they can block up the gap I'll be a lot happier as the windows themselves look great. Depends... Brick veneer required the window to be attached to the house frame, this is usually achieved by screwing through the timber reveal into the frame. There are… 1 4622 There is evidence of water on the head reveals. That could have happened during the build, or may be happening currently. There are water stains above a couple of windows… 2 2678 Personally, considering your layout (study/work desks in bedrooms), I don't think you have any other option but to leave NW windows and make them as big as possible e.g.… 7 7880 |
