Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Nov 23, 2011 1:37 pm Hi All, I was just wondering if anyone would be able to help with a little bit of advice? I have an external door on the rear of my garage which has warped a far bit. As it is a new house I have managed to get the builder to agree to replace the door with a new door. Now the builder is telling me it is the colour of the door that has caused this warping. So the door is currently painted in the colourbond colour 'shale grey', personally i would not class this as a dark colour. Considering the door has only been there for 4 or 5 months and we would of only had a handfull of warm days in perth since it was hung it suprises me a fair bit. What i personally think the cause is the amount of rain we had between it being hung and painted, and due to it oriention water manages to sit onto of the door, which wasn't painted till I pointed it out about a month ago. So my question is what is too dark and what will cause the door to warp? The way i see it is they are basically telling me we need to go to a white door? My main concern is the builder has said if we re-paint it the same grey we currently have (to match the rest of the house) they will not come back and replace it again. Thanks for all of your help. Re: Warped External Door advice 3Nov 23, 2011 7:42 pm Hi Landfish If you have the option with the builder consider installing a fibreglass door. Take a look at these as options http://www.mbsales.net.au/Products/Doors/Entrance/M-B-Entrance-Doors/Elements-Fibreglass-Doors.aspx Regards RiH Re: Warped External Door advice 4Nov 23, 2011 9:22 pm Colorbond's shale grey is a light grey (in no way dark!) so would not have been the cause of warping. Your builder may be clutching at straws. Your theory sounds far more plausible. You might also want to check if the top/bottom/sides were pained/sealed. Ringing the manufacturer directly is a good idea. Re: Warped External Door advice 6Nov 27, 2011 11:27 am My garage door is white and has warped. I don't the colour is a contributing factor. In my case the garage door is unprotected, so it was always going to be a problem. All you can do is make sure is is well sealed (painted) on all six faces and see how it goes.
