Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Nov 14, 2011 10:41 am Hi All, I'm dabbling with the idea of installing my own windows on my new build with an an offsider, rather than pay a carpenter. However I have no idea how long it should take and therefore how much time I should allow? Anyone got a rough idea of how long it would take to install a standard window? I'd figure no more than a hour a window(with two guys). What's got me confused is that places like stegbar etc seeem to want to charge $400 per window, which means that it either must take much longer than an hour to install, or they are making some serious profit! Any ideas? Any ideas? New homes up to 20min (x 2 men, though I have seen one man do the job on a 2 storey home). Longer for doors. I think your Stegbar price is for window replacement - i.e. remove and install. It's easy to do if you follow the instructions (which most carpenters don't). That's much quicker than I thought. Thanks again. Double glazed obviously weighs a fair bit more? Double glazed 20-25 kgs/m2... more for large commercial and laminated. But should you be having bricks as the outer skin on your house you might like to consider the brickie and all the work he might have to do around each window. In particular you should be spacing the windows to work bricks either from a corner up to the window or between windows. Properly placed windows can save an awful lot of brick cutting. cheers barkly Re: How long does it take to install a window? 8Nov 17, 2011 6:50 am barkly You can of course just insert the window in the framing 'hole', pack it out with spacers etc and the job is done... Once you have checked it's is square & plumb and it is set back to the plaster, and then checked that the sash or door panel operates - if not readjust. Saves a lot of work for the window service guy. Ed "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy. Tel. 1800 326 326 Hi Mofflepop, I would recommend finding a building designer to prepare plans, they should design to your specified budget. The benefit is you can tender the project out… 9 20735 That's a fantastic result! Happy you got it sorted out. cheers Simeon 6 8733 Congratulations!
