Issue with doors... help!

VJ, did you get onto Kevin at all???

At the end of the day you are getting what you want, the higher doors and the bulkheads....it's amazing what a builder can do when the pressure is on.... there is ALWAYS a solution. They just need to use their brains sometimes. :evil:

Make sure you are happy with what they are suggesting...if you are NOT sure, then get a second opinion.... this applies to both the slab issue and the door/bulkhead issue.

Need to see the details of the proposed solution.
I was happy to hear that I would still get the high doors and bulkheads.
But bulkheads would be smaller in those areas (HT opening and entry hallway near HT).
Will discuss this with hubby.
As long as making the beams smaller won't cause an issue with the structure of the house, I'm fine with it.
I don't think it's possible that their engineers would suggest something that would impact structural stability. :?:

So there you have it. The solution is to use two shallower beams rather than one deeper beam. Everyone happy.

SO WHY DID IT TAKE SO LONG TO COME UP WITH SUCH A SIMPLE SOLUTION!!!!

It's always good to give people options rather than sticking to a single hardline position. Still, the story's not quite over yet...

It sounds like you have come up with a sound compromise. Just imagine if you had accepted their first suggestion you would have shorter doors!!

Yes, but we are still awaiting them to put it in writing.
Haven't received the email from CSR.
Asked her to put in detail how it is going to be done (better to have a sketch/drawing).

Will update you later today of the details.

Completely agree with you, cabinfever.
That's why I am fortunate that lots of people helped us out to come up with different options.

Well, it sounded good over the phone.. need to see it though in writing. Not quite over yet.. as cabinfever said.
But we're quite relieved to hear that there's another option without changing the size of our doors and not removing (completely) the bulkheads.

We reviewed last night the proposal to fix the issue with the high doors.
They are going to reduce the 300mm deep bulkhead to the entry of HT to 2 x 140mm, as well as the rear of the Entry area.

We agreed to reducing the entry of HT to fit 2340mm high doors, but suggested to retain the 300mm deep bulkhead to the rear of the Entry area.
We felt that once you put in doors to the original Living (formal) area, you wouldn't look at the upper area of the doors as bulkheads that should be of the same deepness as the nearby bulkhead (rear of Entry area).

We are awaiting their response today.
In the meantime, they resumed works yesterday.
We have gutters/fascias now!

Yes we did. CSR rang me to confirm what we really wanted - to have 140mm to the entry of HT (left of Entry hall) and 300mm to the rear of the Entry. She tried to explain that the reason why they decided to make it both 14mm is to make it uniform.
She was wondering why we wanted different deepness for the bulkheads when they were connected (forming 'L' shape).

But I told her that we had a look at the photos we took at the display home.
The bulkhead to the HT (left of entry) won't be obvious anymore (you won't notice it) because of the high doors. It won't look like bulkhead anymore (don't know if i'm making sense). For the bulkhead to the Entry area, it would be too obvious because when you open the doors, it's right there, and there's another bulkhead around 2 to 3 metres away, which is 300mm too. So I told her that it would look more awkward to see the 1st bulkhead along the hallway at 140mm then the next bulkhead at 300mm. While the one to the left of the hallway (HT opening) won't be too obvious if it would have 140mm bulkhead (because of the high doors).

Finally, she agreed and in the afternon we received the variation and the revised plans.

So yes, we'll still have the high doors to the HT, same 300mm bulkhead to the rear Entry and the 2x140mm bulkhead to the entry of the HT.

Quite happy now!

Yes, I'm happy with the result.
Imagine if your builder suddenly tells you that you have to change something from your house due to structural issues.
I really love those high timber doors...

Now, the only remaining issue (so far) is the slab.
Hope they fix it properly. :roll:
