Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jul 13, 2011 10:05 pm Hey - looking for some advice!! We are renovating our home - it is a timber weatherboard home - the timber is in all separate planks. Our carpenter replaced the windows (the old ones were all rusted) and it is a brilliant finish from the inside, but on the outside there is a 2cm gap at the top of the window and there is still the black plastic along the bottom. Apparently he is planning to put a 3.5mm frame around the outside of external side of the window. Is that normal? Before the windows were replaced they just sat flush with the weatherboard. What do you guys think?? Thanks in advance!! Reno in Southport - QLD. So much work to do and timeline has already been pushed back!!! Still To Do - security system, security screens, tree removal (cocus palms), internal works, lighting, ensuite. Re: Window replacement in timber weatherbo house - correct w 2Jul 14, 2011 5:25 pm Ok -so apparently the carpenter is done.... I have attached the photos - and the god awful black rubber along the bottom apparently has to stay. ??!!!?? http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... 8cb0e8eb1e Is that right!!?? I have no idea, but I know that no other windows in the neighbourhood look like this!!! I am soooo disappointed. Thanks in advance for your input. Belinda Reno in Southport - QLD. Re: Window replacement in timber weatherbo house - correct w 3Jul 14, 2011 6:41 pm That is a legitimate way of finishing windows in a replacement situation. The sill flap should be there to push the water away from the wall, but as you have weep holes in the front of the window and water will come out the front, then you could have a similar timber frame on the bottom of the sill and silicon the join to the window, and then remove the sill flap. That would look tidier and keep the water out. BTW It would be a lot tidier using timber windows or an aluminium window with an inline reveal. Then you would not have the big gap round the outside.
