Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jul 05, 2011 4:49 pm Hi All The lot we have purchased is subject to an Acoustic Report being prepared. We have had some reccomendations put together, which include about 5 x 6.38mm laminated glass windows and 1 sliding door. Plus 4 x 10.38mm laminated glass windows and a stacker door. The cost the builder has come back with, after reading these recommendations, is over $8000. This seemed really really high to me... Would anyone with a lot more knowlege than me (that's anyone!) happen to be able to tell straight away if that is accurate? I assumed that would be what it might be for double glazing, but I may be completely confused Thank you in advance for any help! Re: Acoustic Report - Window Upgrading Costs... It will mention Rw or STC value for windows and doors. I think your stacker door is an overkill since it will leak air (and noise) due to the low quality acoustic seals. As an example of performance, our window achieves Rw 34.5 with 8.76 laminate, 9mm air and 4mm clear toughened glass. Help? 3Jul 06, 2011 8:30 am Hi Ed, Thanks for your reply The report states that windows > 1.8m2 require min RW35. windows < 1.8m2 require min RW32. entry doors require RW33 So do you mean we should probably get rid of the stacker door if we want to reduce cost? Thanks again! Re: Acoustic Report - Window Upgrading Costs... Thanks again! The specification seems excessive. Air leakage is major cause of noise, stackers have a lot of air leakage. Help? 7Jul 15, 2011 2:48 pm Hi Ed, I am most likely getting my windows and doors from you, I am just trying to get around the delivery since you guys don't come to Adelaide anymore. But in regards to the stacker I was going to get a sliding stacker from you but now I am worried about the air leakage. Is there more leakage from a sliding stacker compared to a normal sliding door? Especially since I am going for a door 3.6m wide X 2.4m high that a lot of area for air to leak through. This is important to me as I have buzzing planes where I am building. Also for the OP Ed does do a acoustic window at a reasonable price, I will be spending that bit extra for my bedroom windows. I think they achieve STC34.5 I'm sure I will be corrected if I am wrong.
