Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 May 07, 2011 10:58 pm Hi Everyone, I've been reading this forum for a long time now, but have decided to finally come out of the woodwork. We are in the process of signing off final contracts for our new home. Our dream was to have corner bi fold doors, that were dropped into the slab, so they would be level with the floor and alfresco area. However, with the quote for our builder to do this coming back at $16K I', not sure this dream can become a reality now. My question is, if we go ahead and get normal aluminum sliding doors, is it possible to install corner bi folds later down the track when we have the money? Thanks Plonk Re: Can corner bi folds be installed later? 2May 08, 2011 8:42 am Not without support at the corner installed now... e.g. if it's a corner stacker you have then yes, if not, then no. Your $16k will become $30. Re: Can corner bi folds be installed later? 4May 08, 2011 10:31 am Does the 16k include the doors themselves, or is it 16k on top of the door price for the reinforcements? If it's 16k all up, seems like a not too bad price. We had preliminary quotes done at one stage on a house we were looking at, and to have the same thing done but with stacking sliders the price was similar all up. For bi-folds, seems quite good. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Ed Thanks for taking the time to respond everyone. Ed, what sort of supports would need to be installed. Can we install the necessary supports now, put in two sliding doors, and then install bi-folds down the track? I know $16K is probably a good price to have corner bifolds supplied and installed, but we've gone $120K over budget with extras added to our home, so it looks like they can't happen now, but would love the option in the future. The house frame or roof trass will need a major upgrade to be self supporting at the opening corner. The bifold door will likely be top hung, with all the weight hanging from the beam. The bifold door, say 3m x 3m would add about $4k - $6k alone (replacement over 2 doors). Yes, doing it now will allow bifold to slip into place later. Get a price for the upgrade without the door, guessing <$10k. Ed "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy. You can definitely set up corner cabinets to have the same gap as standard doors. 2 13532 4 14255 |
