Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jan 03, 2008 9:51 pm My dh is very keen on putting stacker doors in our planned home, leading to the alfresco area. Two of them, at right angles to each other, meeting at a corner, so they can open right out, creating a natural flow from our meals area and family room to the outside.
Dunno if this makes any sense. Our builder (whom we are redconsidering anyway) quoted us at around $25,000 to get these two doors. It sounds quite high to us, but we're not builders, so we don't know! Can anyone tell me about stacker doors and their value (both financially & quality)? Fiona Re: Stacker Doors 2Jan 03, 2008 9:58 pm Hi nzfiona,
Are you referring to the bi-fold doors? That's what normally being used by builders in their display homes leading to the alfresco area. If it's made of timber, the cost varies from builder to builder (around $4,000 to $5,000). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: Stacker Doors 3Jan 03, 2008 10:00 pm Not sure of the value of these doors…….
1)They are THE most expensive of all the doors. 2)They are the best idea for open plan living! Get some independent quotes….buy them yourself, and have the builder put them in. I prefer stacker over bi-fold as you can have fly screens on stackers. I can't see any easy way for fly screens over bi-folds. As for $25,000 - one 3 section stacker door is adding $2k onto our quote - so I think that price is a bit much! Re: Stacker Doors 6Jan 04, 2008 8:07 am Hi nzfiona, welcome to the forum, in regards to stacker or bi-fold doors, here's a thread that might assist you.

Do you mean that the corner of the house will not be supported by any walls? If this is the case then the cost is not in the doors. There would be considerable engineering costs associated with this look. Sure it can be done but as you have found out it is very expensive. Re: Stacker Doors 10Jan 07, 2008 11:37 am This sort of option is available on the Carlisle Homes, Bordeaux 40...
We have one being build 2 houses down from us with this option, but inverted. Not sure on the cost of it though.... $25K sounds a bit much though???? ![]() ![]() ![]() Re: Stacker Doors 11Jan 08, 2008 10:15 am sounds about right, we we're looking at building a with ownit homes and deleting this option and adding a column in the corner took around $20k off the base price. I'm not all that bothered, but my dh was particularly keen on them. However, it's possible to get almost the same thing without investing so much dosh by dong other things.

The corner has no support and really opens up the area.
The cost is somewhere between $8000 and $10,000 from memory. There is a lot of engineering involved, it's limited to single storey homes, aluminium is not an option and you must have cladding (instead of bricks) above the doors. You can see it here http://www.edenbraehomes.com.au/OurHomes/Prestige/Memphis.aspx Re: Stacker Doors 17Jan 29, 2008 8:24 pm We are having these kinds of sliding doors installed in our house. They are made of aluminum just like normal sliding doors, only thicker.
They are made by Tech-mart. We''ll begetting ours from the builder for only 6k+ for the 2 sides. Its a bit of a promo because when I asked the price directly at Tech-mart, they quoted me 7k for just 1 side not including installation costs. I'd love those - but I'd want to install an air curtain to stop flies and mossies getting in. After 4 years - we're in! Re: Stacker Doors 19Jan 30, 2008 6:23 pm Our builder has quoted us for around $2000 to get stacker doors on for the long side and an ordinary (but extra wide) sliding door on the shorter side, both meeting and latching together in the corner. We will have two load-bearing columns outside in the alfresco area.
Hopefully it'll work out! Fiona thats not right - theyre actually cheaper! 20Mar 12, 2008 4:15 pm these stacker doors are acually cheaper than $25000!! we saw this hosue and it had a 3 way stacker door alfresco..all for about $10,000...
