Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Feb 10, 2011 4:04 pm Hi, we have been looking at Woodworkers timber Pivot front doors and they have one called the Mandalay which comes in a 1200 and a 1500mm width. (I think its their only style which comes in 1500 as most are 1200). We are planning on a 2800 wide entry/passage, would there be any issues with this large sized door? Do they sag over time? The height of the door is 2280 and depth 45. Would it be extremely heavy to open.. perhaps not a bad thing, so kids cant play with it. We expect that we would be entering and exiting mostly through the garage, so it would basically be used for when guests arrive, and we would be doing the opening and shutting ourselves - 2 strong adults. Any comments welcome please. Re: Pivot front door - 1500mm 2Feb 13, 2011 9:23 pm there's a few factors to consider (do you have a self closing mechanism) . I have a 1600 mm pivot door and the pivot is set at 450mm and is very easy to push open The bigger the door the more leverage you have Re: Pivot front door - 1500mm 3Feb 14, 2011 9:47 pm i think your biggest problem would be warping.theres an acceptable minimum allowed and it gets bigger the wider the door is. woodworkers only fit hydraulic pivot mechanisms to there pivots as a safety thing.you wont have any problems opening the door.great doors by the way Re: Pivot front door - 1500mm 5Feb 15, 2011 7:32 am Thanks so much for your replies, just wondering is there any way to reduce warping or to correct it if it becomes an issue? Also, the hydraulic pivot mechanism - would that reduce the apparent dangers of kids getting body parts stuck in the door? I read on here that someone would never have pivot doors because of the dangers, and it has frightened me. Thanks for your thoughts. Do you feel your louvre sidelite security mesh is safe? I was thinking no window at all so no one can see if I'm near the front door, shadows… 2 766 Building Standards; Getting It Right!
