Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Feb 09, 2011 3:04 pm Please help! DH has got his heart set on solidcore timber internal doors to all rooms, while my vision is light and spacious, palest offwhite/beige walls, shiny offwhite porcelain tiles and minimalist style. Can somebody please reassure me, or at least tell him that this wont match and will look very heavy and conflicting. If he would settle for a clear or light stain it might be bearable, but he prefers the darkest colours. I'm worried our beautiful new home will look like a mish-mash! PS these doors arent cheap, and I dont think they will improve the appearance. Any advice welcome! Re: Timber stained internal doors- will it match the decor? 2Feb 10, 2011 10:29 am Depends on the stain as to matching. But overall, would match better if painted white. Re: Timber stained internal doors- will it match the decor? 3Feb 10, 2011 10:40 am What are you doing with your architraves and skirting boards? IMO they look pretty bad being painted next to a stained door, but then again I think the whole stained door / architrave / skirting can look dated. Unless of course you are restoring an older home or going for a period home look ie my parents are almost completed restoring an 1880's gentleman's residence, stained doors and trims look fantastic there but no way would I have it in my 18mth old home. Wouldn't match anything - including my furniture!! Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Timber stained internal doors- will it match the decor? 7Feb 11, 2011 9:47 pm agree with all of the above!!! paint 'em baby my builder thought I wanted my timber double glass doors stained and did stain them first. they looked awful, well to be fair they looked "ok" but I made him paint over them and they look much nicer now, nice and seamless and light and spacious just how you described!! Okay, then the choice is really about the build quality of the door itself which means the brand name. Sorry I can't recommend one or the other so best to rely on comments… 5 3260 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15909 Thanks. Yeh ideally that would have been good, but have progressed too far now. Hoping some well placed internal walls fixed up into the battens will provide some… 2 5404 |
