Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Dec 31, 2010 8:51 pm I want a nice new door for the ensuite...right now it's just a plain white overly glossy door (complete with stuck on old towel rail the people before us put on. It won't come off without taking the paint off the door), and I want a less glossy one with 4 panels...just the standard internal doors you see in many places... I looked at Bunnings and saw, much to my excitement, that these doors are very cheap! http://www.bunnings.com.au/products_pro ... ors&page=2 I thought, if it looks ok as is (no painting, etc), I'd get a handyman in to remove the old one and fit the new one for not much money. HOWEVER. Today when I got home from work I measured the existing ensuite door, and OH DEAR. You see how the measurements on the Bunnings door are 2040 in height and 820 in width across? Well...I assume this is standard, as all their doors are the same measurements, and our BEDROOM door is 2040 tall and 820 wide, but the ensuite door is 2010 tall and 720 wide. So...that wrecks that bright idea, eh? Unless I spend a heap more to get a custom-made door, I'm stuck with the existing one. *surly* How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: The doors in my place aren't standard size! 2Dec 31, 2010 9:27 pm You can get doors easily in 720 wide, however the height would be your issue. Is there anyway you could lower the door frame height? It would be easier to keep and paint the existing door though. Re: The doors in my place aren't standard size! 3Dec 31, 2010 10:19 pm 720 and 820 mm wide are standard widths. Not sure what the standard height is, but the doors may be able to be cut down. You will have to cut 15 from both top and bottom. Or better still cut 30 mm off the bottom. then knock out and replace the bottom rail with glue then clamp over night. Or better still cut 30 mm off the bottom. then knock out and replace the bottom rail with glue then clamp over night. Not my question, but I'm interested. Is the bottom rail part of the door? How would glue form a proper base for a door. I'm obviously missing something. Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: The doors in my place aren't standard size! 6Jan 02, 2011 9:06 pm You 'glue' a new bottom rail in place of the one that has been cut-down (removed) Re: The doors in my place aren't standard size! 8Jan 02, 2011 10:54 pm go to a place that specialises in doors and get the closest fit you can find. It may need to be trimmed down but there is a bit of leeway with doors. It's very unusual to get a door and have it "fit" perfectly, so you would just get the door hung and fitted by carpenter who can skim it to fit properly and hang it and generally places that sell doors offer this service, just take your door dimensions with you when you go to buy. Should the trimmed edge be smooth or have patchy appearance? Most doors need a bit of skimming in places to fit the frames properly and allow for flooring/carpets etc but you wouldnt notice it. Re: The doors in my place aren't standard size! 11Jan 03, 2011 8:59 pm Mine a poor along the edge that has the latch in, if you now what I mean. That is, the outside 35 mm wide bit. Okay sorry silly me, my wife has solves the mystery for me. It’s because the labels on the ports are all wrongly positioned by the builder hence it confuses me. 2 1461 Use a product like Equisol's Vitalise to clean the deck then coat with a penetrating timber oil.
