Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Nov 19, 2010 9:18 pm Hi there I'm looking at getting a new front door. The frame is quite wide (apparently that is typical for my suburb). I have been to Doors Plus and got a quote from there for a not so solid door. Are these really what people call solid though? I'm thinking more of my dad's front door from the late 60's or so. Big heavy door; it almost hurts to knock on it! Is my best bet auctions or house demolitions or are there places in Perth that will do a big heavy door? Thanks, Re: Solid front doors - where do I get them? 2Dec 10, 2010 7:04 am You need to go to see cabinet makers who make custom doors. Not all do it. We had one for our last house made out of solid jarrah. OMG it was beautiful. Huge. A cabinet maker made ours - he wasnt known to build doors to the "outside world" but it just so happens that we had inside knowledge of him doing them. So your best thing is to ask around. But start with cabinet makers. And remember they will be expensive. Doors Plus are a run of the mill business so are a lot cheaper. Re: Solid front doors - where do I get them? 3Dec 10, 2010 11:17 am We bought a custom solid timber entrance door. Unfortunately hubby didnt have the machinery necessary to make it himself so we got it through Carlo at Premium Windows and Doors. He did our frame also. Tell him George from Custome European Cabinets in Mernda recommended you. His price was very reasonable too - about a thousand cheaper than we'd been quoted from a place in Eltham and The Door Store Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Now to find a big piece of wood... Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15918 If this is a custom build then I would expect the builder to set out the door frame closer to the wall to avoid the gap between architrave and the wall and or specify… 9 8313 I haven’t. But have a Lowe Design home. Not only did I find Matt Lowe patronising and a bully, but the home is NOT TO CODE. I have water coming through the bricks… 1 14380 |
