Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Nov 17, 2010 8:31 am Hi All, Our front door has 5 glass square panels in it that aren't frosted. Anyone else in this situation? What should I do? Should I just call o'brien and have them replace it? Mind you, the house hasn't finished construction as of yet, still probably has another 4 weeks left. Should I hit up the builder to replace them? Re: Front door question 2Nov 17, 2010 9:08 am you can buy DIY frosted film from places like bunnings and even ebay. Or call up any window tinting firm and get them to add it on. We are doing it this way as we found what the builder charges to be excessive. You also have a wider choice of styles, colours, etc Re: Front door question 4Nov 21, 2010 8:48 pm Did you order the door through your builder? If so, I would get them to replace it. If you have chosen and paid for a frosted door and it is not frosted then it should be replaced. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Front door question 5Nov 22, 2010 10:00 am As Themax said - what is specified in the contract? If you specified frosted then you can make them replace it without any cost to yourself. If however it is not specified to be frosted then you can ask the builder but they can charge you the costs incurred to replace it. Seems that most people these days prefer clear glass inserts in their doors. We have clear in ours however had we have been closer to the road / neighbours I would have preferred frosted. Since we are 80-ish metres from the road behind an electric gate I was happy to have clear to let in the natural light. Check your contract before approaching your builder. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Front door question 7Nov 22, 2010 11:56 am I had to specify with my door that I wanted frosted glass, otherwise it would have been the default (clear). It's the same with bathroom and toilet windows. As others have said check your contract. In any event it's easy enough to get obscuring film placed over clear glass if you forgot to specify what you wanted. Depends how much privacy you want from those that knock on your door Re: Front door question 8Nov 24, 2010 8:17 pm Thanks for the replies. I will be getting the solicitor to have a quick look through the contract to check the specifics.. On a side note, does anyone have their contracts with them? I thought the solicitor was meant to hold onto them.. I thought the solicitor was meant to hold onto them.. No way, if you want, a solicitor can look over them but you are supposed to keep a copy. I don't know how many times I have gone back to it to check exactly what I signed for! Re: Front door question 12Jan 09, 2011 8:22 pm seems like alot of hate towards us builders!! just check the door schedule on the plan that will determine what the builder is required to supply. you don't have to talk to your solicitor every time there is a problem either, just ask the builder i'm sure they are able to help you in any way they can Re: Front door question 13Jan 09, 2011 8:28 pm oh and also, im unsure weather entrance doors come standard with frosted glass, but if it a custom door then it could have been fitted Re: Front door question 14Jan 09, 2011 8:33 pm alfy Thanks for the replies. I will be getting the solicitor to have a quick look through the contract to check the specifics.. On a side note, does anyone have their contracts with them? I thought the solicitor was meant to hold onto them.. I think the first question is: What did you specify you wanted? Then, what is in your contract? You dont need a solicitor to tell you what's in your contract. You can have a look, then contact your builder if it is incorrect, and they will replace the door. Did you ask for clear or frosted glass? Re: Front door question 15Jan 09, 2011 8:36 pm yeap - I'm a bit confused as why you need a solicitor to look over your addenda or schedule whatever is called in your area and check if the builder installed the right doors as selected at your pre-start. It's a simple process of informing your site supervisor or liaison person of the mistake.
