I will let you know in a few months time if it was a good investment!! I can tell you now, yes it is. http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff126/Alan_Gill_house/deck14.jpg Had kids birthday on the weekend, opened the doors all the way up and we had a massive area for guests, inside and out. Steps were also great for sitting and chatting. Single door is used for normal traffic and I modified a clear plastic fly door (? or whatever you call it) to be removable to stop bugs during normal summer use. Re: Bifold doors 4Nov 27, 2007 9:24 am With regards to the flys and bugs and what nots.... check out the likes of Phantom screens....

Bunnings el cheapo plastic screen is 2100 x 900. Can't get a longer one Hmmm....fairly useless when you have 2400 high doors. Bugs can get in underneath..... Take some leftover merbau, your router, some nuts and bolts and $6 worth of 0.5mm plastic sheet (again from Bunnings 900mm wide x 500mm long $13 a metre ) Now the screen makes it all the way to the ground. Two eyelets in the top of the door frame and 2 hooks slightly flattened out in the top of the screen means it can be easily hung and removed whenever needed. A bit of felt also on both sides to stop the screen rubbing on the door and frame. http://s243.photobucket.com/albums/ff126/Alan_Gill_house/th_flies1.jpg Routed out timber to encase the existing top of the screen and extension plastic piece to get the extra length I needed. http://s243.photobucket.com/albums/ff126/Alan_Gill_house/th_flies2.jpg No doubt next time I'm out looking for something I'll see a screen that's 2400 long , but for now this works like a charm. Not even.... Ooops sorry, better stay on topic. Re: Bifold doors 10Dec 05, 2007 8:52 am piranha Hmm, good way to make your new home look like a fish & chip shop,, sorry al but it looks tacky, not so much your workmanship but the whole pvc blind idea. Yeah, that was mentioned. But in my defence a) My wife bought it b) I have 3 kids and this seemed like the most childproof solution c) It was cheap and is removable d) I like chips Re: Bifold doors 11Dec 06, 2007 2:43 pm Bi-fold doors (or the multi panel sliders we are getting) seem to work well in conjunction with evaporative cooling.
With evap cooling you leave the doors open, and the colder air exits - stopping the pesky little buggers coming in the house. That's what most of the display homes do during summer. Re: Bifold doors 12Dec 06, 2007 2:50 pm Growing up in Sydney we had bi folds in the kitchen going to the deck and it was a pain in the arse. We had so many flies and mozzies coming in and out and Mum would be screaming to close the doors, which led to them looking really beat up after two years from being repeatedly slammed. Personal opinion is to go for stacker doors, you can get some really nice looking ones now and you can get screens to fit. Nothing attracts a basket ball/cricket ball/bat/stick/tennis ball/food like something fragile and spinning outside. Re: Bifold doors 20Dec 07, 2007 4:58 pm to all those who put in the stacker sliders; I would be interested to know the size of your stacker slider and which type of flyscreen did you use?
