Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Nov 05, 2010 4:39 pm Yeah I know it's not a window... or a door... but thought I might try in here for some help. We have a timber dining table, and I'm after some glass to help protect the top of the table (but still to enjoy the nice timber look). I've tried a few glass places around us, the only guy who answered his phone quoted $180 p/m2 for 6mm glass, or for toughened glass $240 p/m2. Now that's going to cost as much as the table did in the first place Any advice? Ideas? Contacts? Cheers!!! Re: Glass for dining table... 3Nov 05, 2010 4:56 pm TheOK ..it's obvious ...you don't have kids. Friends of our have two toddlers, another on the way... they had glass cut for their table top... has saved their beautiful timber table from damage. They paid around $180 I thought... so it just seems too much what the guy quoted me today. Re: Glass for dining table... 4Nov 05, 2010 7:08 pm TheOK ..it's obvious ...you don't have kids. We grew up with a glass dining table and there was never a problem. Re: Glass for dining table... 7Nov 12, 2010 6:38 pm The dining table is timber, but I'm looking for a reasonably priced glass supplier to cut a piece to go over the top to protect it from scratches and damage. Re: Glass for dining table... 8Nov 12, 2010 7:19 pm Aaron & Erin Thanks Have to drop my car in for a service in Epping tomorrow, I'll check it out I was wondering if you went! Not sure if you have ordered carpet yet , but if not drop in next door to Whitt Glass and check out Epping Carpets - speak to Vicki or her hubby (name escapes me )- great place and service, no pressure. Re: Glass for dining table... 9Nov 12, 2010 7:24 pm We've ordered carpet for the master bedroom, but still need carpet for the 3 minor bedrooms... will check it out -thanks Re: Glass for dining table... 12Nov 14, 2010 10:36 pm I have a glass table ... and children ..... it's a cloudy glass but when you wipe it you have to dry it over to stop the streaks. But I have found that the supermarket sells window/glass cleaner as wipes and now use these instead. ... Homeone Moderator ... oh your little girl and I share the same birthdate (except the year). Re: Glass for dining table... 13Nov 20, 2010 12:57 pm It's a great idea, my mum did it when I was a kid. She worked for a window company though so got it through them. My two toddlers have destroyed our current dining table (forks bashed into timber while my back is turned), lucky ours is a cheap second hand one. Re: Glass for dining table... 14Nov 22, 2010 11:04 am I still haven't gone any further with this Haven't had time... Currently our table is protected by a thick layer of plastic stuff from Clark Rubber. It's working well, but looks tacky Re: Glass for dining table... 15Nov 22, 2010 3:22 pm I'm planning on doing the same thing! We have a gorgeous dark wood table but it's really soft timber and marks really easily so I want to cover it in glass AND I have 2 young kids. Personally, I think they'll do less damage to glass than my wooden table! waylow If only you were in Sydney! Those prices are more than double what I would charge. I'm in Sydney - what would you charge for a piece of glass 1500 x 1500? Sorry to hijack Erin!
