Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Oct 31, 2010 8:44 am Just wondering if anyone knows of any Syd company that could make a small custom sliding window panel. I saw frameless sliding doors and that would be the starting point, minus the large and bulky top and bottom tracks (which are obviously ok for large doors, but not ok for a tiny window panel). This is what we need: Window is size 1.2 x 1.2 m. The glass panel would sit on the internal side of the room. The glass panel would be approx. half of the width of the window, and about 6-8cm away from the top and bottom reveal each (the glass would be "suspended" and secured into the side reveals). Obviously, we'd prefer the panel to have very small non-obtrusive tracks (or whatever needs to be installed). The glass would be frameless on the sides; I guess there is no way of avoiding the top and bottom suspension/glides/tracks. Oh, and the glass panel would be easy to slide from side to side , but not too easy so that, for example, strong wind can slide it for us Or, is there an easier way to do this / DIY, with some product that is rigid like glass? And where do I find such tracks??? I looked at all the window furnishing components, but nothing like this is available. My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Also this single panel would be a bit shorter than the full window height (about 6cm each side, ie. 6cm from top and bottom reveals), and the width would be approx 55-60cm (while the window width is 1.2 m). So, a small glass panel that is not firmly sitting on bottom reveal, but is rather kind of "suspended" from both top and bottom reveals. Worst comes to worst, I guess it could be sitting on the bottom reveal, if it's not possible to attach it somehow to the side reveals. Maybe I can draw a sketch later ... Oh and thanks for that link, Ed. This would be very similar, except that mine would go from side to side, not up/down. And would only have one panel, which we could slide from one side of the window to the other, to only cover one window panel at a time. My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... This pic shows the panel fully "closing" the left window side, but it could stay anywhere within the window frame (wherever the red tracks go). This particular model seems to hang from the top, but will check if they have anything that is attached to the sides. I like how sleek this looks. So you reckon that 0.6 x 1.1 m piece of glass (plus fixtures) will be that heavy? 12 kg ... Didn't expect that ... My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: (Semi) Frameless sliding glass windows / panels 9Nov 06, 2010 10:56 pm 6mm glass 1.1x.6 m weigth= 9.9 kg The system shown will carry 60kg and the track length 1.5m wiith just 3 fixings so i,d be thinking a fixing each end at 1.2m long should be able to cope with this weight meaning you could fiix to the sides of the opening You could also put the same track on the bottom aswell which would have floating look Re: (Semi) Frameless sliding glass windows / panels 10Nov 07, 2010 6:11 am Hmmm ... was never giving much thought to this side of the story, but, as you say, should be able to cope. BTW, out of interest, where do you find out how much each type & thickness of glass weighs (I suppose per m2 of glass)?? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ...
