Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Oct 29, 2010 1:59 pm Hi. Anyone can point to step-by-step instruction to lay a brick in an angle under the window? I need to change 1 of my window's height after the brick had been laid, and for some reason, I couldn't contact the one laying bricks at the first place to finish the job. Now under the window, I have a bit more than a course height gap (probably close to 1.5 brick) and would need to lay the brick in an angle, similar to my other window. This is a single storey brick veneer house with wood window. Or if anyone can answer some of my questions below: 1. Do we need to put a metal flashing behind the brick (under the window), in case water goes inside the brick? 2. I read that we need 5mm gap between the brick and the window? Do I then cover it with construction adhesive to cover the gap? 3. How do we keep the angle uniform? I imagine if we just put mortar under the tilted brick, it can move easily before the mortar settled? 4. And as my gap is big, mean, after I put the brick in an angle I want (to match the existing), there might still be 30-40mm gap with the current brick course (unless I put the brick in 70 degree angle - which I don't want - there'll still be quite a big gap), again, can I just put mortar to support the brick directly or do I really need to cut brick horizontally to fill the gap? Thanks before. Re: How to install brick under the window in an angle? 2Oct 30, 2010 7:21 am 4. Our brickie gave us the option of using either extra mortar or bricks cut in half horizontally to fill the gap under our window sill bricks. We chose the horizontally cut bricks but if he had used only mortar he would have had to put the first layer on the day before so it had time to set and laid the window sill bricks the following day. Building Standards; Getting It Right! There doesn't look to be any rebate in the slab to prevent water from scooting under the window. AS4654 is the Australian standard to look at/refer to. They have… 1 10148 That's a fantastic result! Happy you got it sorted out. cheers Simeon 6 8640 |
