Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Oct 20, 2010 4:42 pm Does anybody have any experience in fitting the woven aluminium security screens like crimsafe and amplimesh into uPVC frames? The best answer I've been able to get locally is "I'm not sure, but I think you could screw it into the steel bar that runs through the upvc frame..." In our case while the additional security is welcome it is primarily because of its pet-proof properties: it can't be harmed by our cats and will allow us to swing tilt-and-turn windows right open. I should add, that the two major supplies here use either Deceuninck or Kömmerling. Re: uPVC windows and Crimsafe / Amplimesh screens 2Oct 20, 2010 5:53 pm As you have tilt & turn windows, the only way to get what you want is to screw the screen onto the face of the window. If you are trying to prevent pet damage, then normal flyscreens with stainless mesh would be enough - and much cheaper. They are not expensive and can be a good alternative to screwing if you don't like that idea. Email me for details, I can help out with a few instructions if you are inclined to do it yourself. By way of background, we are a uPVC fabricator (Deceuninck profile) and a Bradnams aluminium fabricator and commercial aluminium fabricator. To complement our uPVC suite, we use the Supa Screen security product in the following applications. (Supa Screen is a similar product to Crimsafe) * Sliding security doors. We use an intergated track that perfectly complements the aesthetics of the sliding door profile. * Hinged Security doors. We developed a spacer profile that colour matches the door profile and allows normal installation. * Windows, both inward opening and outward opening. We use our proprietory product screen profile that fits within the uPVC frame and only protrudes 2mm from the window face. For flyscreens we use stainless steel plunger pins for easy removal. For security mesh, we also fit tamper proof fixings. This screen profile is also wrapped in our standard uPVC vinyl colour range for excellent aesthetics all round. This allows for perfect matching of golden oak and other woodgrain selections as well as every other colour. Just be mindful that using turn buttons are only fine for insect mesh as they offer no real security and dont look the best IMHO. Feel free to PM me if you would like me to send you a picture of how we screen our windows. Cheers and good luck, Brad Depends...
