Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Oct 06, 2010 10:31 pm Our main bathroom is tiny tiny. The door opens into and basically hides the shower behind it when it's open. It's always in the way. What's involved in having it replaced with a sliding door? Because there is no where to slide it (because the showers there!) it would need to go in the wall recess somehow. Has anyone ever done this and give me an idea what the cost may be? We would have to get someone to do it we wouldn't be able to do it ourselves. You'd have to replace the entire door frame wouldn't you? Is it a major job? Re: Replacing hinged door with sliding (cavity) 2Oct 06, 2010 10:59 pm Yes it is quite a large job as you have to rip the entire plaster off change all of the internal parts of the wall i.e the frame - you also wouldn't be able to do it if that particular wall is where your pipes/plumbing is. In terms of cost I couldn't help you there. Re: Replacing hinged door with sliding (cavity) 5Oct 07, 2010 8:26 am Hi, I just had a cavity door installed for my new ensuite. As the plaster had to be replaced with waterproof plaster in the ensuite stripping the wall was not a problem. The carpenter took off all the plaster along the wall where the door would be (incl cornice - which I don't think really had to be pulled out). I then went out and when I was back home 2-3 hrs he had it finished it! He did a great job and was very quick. I love the door and am considering one for my laundry. Make sure there is no plumbing in the wall. Re cost it is tricky to guess as he did alot of things for a set amount. The door was about $80 from Bunnings; flush handle $10; plus about 3 hours labour. I would guess working out my carpenters rates the job was about $300-400. Mof2 I’m in a similar position except I’m after sliding 3 stacking doors. I am on a second-story apartment of which the balcony would not adequately fit any bi-fold or… 5 16071 DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Thanks Chippy . Did also see a YouTube video before.
