Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Oct 05, 2010 10:26 pm Hi our home is decorated modern inside with fairly neutral colours, mostly greys. The windows to the front of the house are wooden colonial style, have never been painted, just looks like a stain. The skirtings and other windows are the same colour, different style. We dont wish to paint (big job). The windows similar to this but floor length http://www.google.com.au/imgres?imgurl= ... 80&bih=840 I have light colored verticals on them and they just dont suit. Too many lines going in all which direction. They seem harsh. What would be the best style for these windows? Want modern but keeping in mind the style of windows and the fact they are brown. I think blinds alone would be too harsh because the windows are already so harsh. I do not like anything frilly or bulky heavy drapes. I'm thinking along the lines of some premade curtains from Spotlight ... but then I have the problem of windows facing to the street I really dont like to have an open view in. I thought I could add a double track and add some sheers behind but that seems old fashioned and tracks are ugly? I dont want pelmets. Then considered hollands with decorator sheers on top hanging either side. I have this in another room, but never shut the sheers. I guess the ones at the front of the house I could pull shut for privacy during the day when the blind is open? Otherwise thinking just plain curtains like eyelets or pinch pleats but again privacy issues. I feel like I want the best of both worlds. I want privacy but I also want to be able to see the view out of one of the windows! The choices are confusing and I really dont have a great eye for decorating. Any suggestions? Re: Curtains for colonial style windows 2Oct 06, 2010 3:33 pm My friend has similar style windows and has put up Austrian Blinds throughout her house (although she has decorated the whole place in a traditional/country style). They are a cream colour with little embossed star prints (same colour) that add a bit of texture. She doesn't have anything else used to block out external view but you can't really see in from the street unless you are really trying to look. What about a nice simple (and dust free!) Holland Blind with a scolloped edge for a bit of interest? Still a bit traditional but not as full on as the Austrian? Or a straight edge Holland with a sheer Holland behind it? That way during the day you can see out but people can't see in, then at night you lower the blockout blind for full privacy. Which one and how is it? 0 2431 The Dulux colour consultants are awesome. If you show them the photos they should be able to figure it out for you straight away 1 1612 There is evidence of water on the head reveals. That could have happened during the build, or may be happening currently. There are water stains above a couple of windows… 2 3830 |
