Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Sep 17, 2010 12:26 pm This may be a dumb question, but is there any danger with sun pelting down directly onto blinds?? Our roller blinds just got installed and I'm not overly impressed with them to be honest, the material is very cheap and nasty looking, but I guess they will do for now. Anyway, they are a charcoal colour, and in our bedroom, the blind at the front is very very hot due to the direct sunlight. Now they were only installed this morning and it is now 10.20am here, and they still have a majority of the days sunlight on them to go. As they are such a cheap type of material and very dark, I was wondering if this posed any fire danger as such?? On another note, I don't know whether to be happy or not. They have installed blinds on the activity sliding door, which I know we didn't pay for, and weren't meant to be there. Should I be happy that we have something for nothing even though I think they look crap because there is 3 blinds across the door with big gaps inbetween and a middle chain hanging down? I was going to do curtains on this door like the rest of the big doors in the living area. I think I am happy to have something for nothing, and will just live with it to see if I get use to it Re: Blinds getting hot? 2Sep 17, 2010 1:15 pm Charcoal black absorbs a lot of heat - such is the nature of anything painted black. I cannot comment on the risk of fire - you are better off asking this question to the eople who installed/manufactured it, as it should hav some sort of fire rating value. As to whether or not you should be happy....is entirely upto you. Personally - If I got something for nothing and it was of use to me - I would be happy. Re: Blinds getting hot? 3Sep 17, 2010 1:34 pm I would ask the place I got it them from, but to be honest, I don't think they'd have a clue and would just tell me they would be fine as they seem to talk the talk, but not really have a clue... only am finding this out while everything is being installed!! It was just something I've never really thought about before, but after feeling how hot the blind was getting, was something that I wondered if I should be concerned about. Just thought someone on here may have an idea! Re: Blinds getting hot? 4Sep 17, 2010 1:44 pm Did you specifically order black, or did the company suggest it to you ? If the company did suggest, then they should have had a reason either functional ro aesthetic, to suggets this colour ?. Re: Blinds getting hot? 5Sep 17, 2010 1:55 pm Nah, we just picked it as it matched the carpets and everything else was white. I "assume" that they would have to be fire proof being on windows, but I don't know if I trust a lot of companies these days due to bad previous experiences Surely they would advise against it if there could be problems... who knows. They were from a carpet shop and there is no where on the blinds that say who the supplier of the blinds are. Will give the shop a call and find out. Re: Blinds getting hot? 6Sep 19, 2010 8:43 am Blinds should not be a fire risk as you will find the fabric will be fire rated. With the 3 free blinds you can move the chains to the outside of the blind by simply pulling out the mechanisms and changing the end. They just plug in. You will need to change your brackets too.
