Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Sep 17, 2010 12:27 am I am wondering if anyone out there has pros and cons on front door styles. We are building a 4973 sq. foot home that is approx. 80 feet in width. We are debating between a double door or a single door entry. Double doors of course would look more impressive, but our concern is the ease of it. We have four kids and though the front door won't be the primary entrance to the home on a daily basis, double doors seem more bothersome to operate if your in and out constantly. Also, I design wreaths and with two doors, I'll need two of everything, so the decorating aspect is more diffiicult with two doors. We are between going with double doors, or just one wider single door. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Re: FRONT ENTRY DOORS!!!?? HELP?? 2Sep 17, 2010 12:37 am Why would double doors be more bothersome? We have double doors and one has a bolt so we only use one as normal. We can open both if need be. I'd hate to go back to a single door. Double doors are so much easier for moving furniture or any large items in or out. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Double doors would make it easier to get furniture in/out. Built with New Generation (Summit Homes) We own land!... with a slab on it! Plus a shell of a house with stuff inside ! HELP?? 5Sep 17, 2010 8:43 am Have you thought of a larger single door? We've had one previously - was fantastic. Obviously more expensive than a standard single door as you will most probably have to have custom made. I'm getting quotes at the moment as we are deciding the same thing, I'm thinking of leaning towards the extra large single door again. Wont be a drama as the double doors as per your thoughts. And you are able to get furniture in easily as apposed to a single standard door. Your measurements you will have to decide/talk to your builder etc. Re: FRONT ENTRY DOORS!!!?? HELP?? 6Sep 17, 2010 10:46 am A large single door with a pivot hinge is difficult to screen. You don't say your location but if you like to leave your front door open for breeze (like we do in NQ) then double doors or a single door on a normal hinge may be more pactical. Re: FRONT ENTRY DOORS!!!?? HELP?? 7Sep 17, 2010 10:49 am We didnt have a pivot door for our large single door. Just used a very very strong door hinges to hold a solid jarrah door approx. 8ft tall, and I cant remember the exact width. Black on light wood does look good.
