Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Sep 16, 2010 12:21 pm Hi, As summer is approaching in Melbourne we have been looking to getting fly wire screens and security doors. We have decided we are going to get out screens for the windows from the company our builder got our windows from in powder coated aluminium (as this is what our windows are). But for the doors (mainly the front entry) we are after a security door with a wooden frame in Merbau colour. I have done a search on google but in the melbourne region I can only seem to find the diamond cross powder coated aluminium doors. Does anyone know where I can get timber framed security doors? Does anyone have them? If so I would love to see some pics Re: Timber framed security doors 2Sep 17, 2010 1:10 pm Hi, Timber Security Doors - wow - that's going to be tough one. The problem is that for a security door to have a timber frame, it will be very hard for it to meet Australian Standards for strength and security. For example, a timber frame is very unlikely to have the strength of an aluminium frame that can be screwed and welded - plus the timber frame is highly unlikely to be able to withstand fire etc. I guess there are few options here: 1. Contact Timber Door providers, and ask them for advice or a referral to someone they may know - they are the ones most likely to know of anyone who does this. Unfortunately although I am in the industry, I don't know anyone who does timber framed security doors. or 2. Use aluminium powdercoated in a Woodgrain finish. There are some excellent powercoating colours available such as Light Cherry Woodgrain, Dark Cherry Woodgrain, and several more. or 3. Forego the woodgrain/timber look altogether and go with a complimentary colour that looks great, and doesn't even intend on looking like wood. I hope that helps somewhat.
