Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Sep 09, 2010 9:01 pm Ok I think we have found the 1 thing we didnt consider during construction! We need a cat door put in & the only areas that are available are sliding doors. I have been told a cat door cant be put into the fixed panel of sliding doors due to the thickness of the glass & was quoted $700 to repalce the whole sheet of glass. There must be a better way? We have a 'pig in mud' door already from our last house but dont want to use that again as the dog has figured she fits & we dont want her in anymore when we are not home - she made herself way too comfy on the couch & our bed! I found these guys http://www.theslidingdoorstore.com/Why-Get-A-Dog-Door.asp - but they arent in Australia & cant find a local equivalent. Any suggestions? Cheers Kim Re: Cat door - help please! 2Sep 09, 2010 9:02 pm Ive seen cat doors placed in the bottom pane of glass in windows.... We are on a reasonable busy street so want something to/from backyard? Re: Cat door - help please! 4Sep 09, 2010 9:17 pm the glass in your doors is most likely toughened glass which cannot be cut so you need a new piece with a hole . if you google "patiolink" there are inserts that are available like the ones shown Re: Cat door - help please! 5Sep 09, 2010 10:17 pm OMG, ...I recently installed a cat door in a granny flat , the entrances have security doors so the best solution in that circumstance was to go through the wall. ..very happy client. Maybe that's an option you can consider. Re: Cat door - help please! 8Sep 29, 2010 10:04 pm So we admitted defeat & have had a cat door installed in the sliding door screen. It was the most cost effective (and easiest) way - just means we will need to leave that glass slider open the 30? cm of the cat door. Shouldn't be a problem as we put in the a door in the games room up the other end of the house. Cheers Kim If this is a custom build then I would expect the builder to set out the door frame closer to the wall to avoid the gap between architrave and the wall and or specify… 9 8289 Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7142 i had the my concreters concrete right up to the fence. I have pits all along my path, so the water tends to drain away from the house and into the pits.
