Tilt and turn single glazed - I have never seen and agree with the other why would you go that way. Double glazed with a Low E glass in any framing material with good wall and roof insulation (and usually double brick in WA) and some common sense can provide 6+star rated home. (at least) Even with aluminium. Savings on your energy bill as agreed by the experts (and again in a Melb climate) for a say medium size home of $195 for the best available double glazed tilt and turn timber with double glazing and high solar gain low e glass with argon fill. Saving for std alum with low e and double glazed around $140pa benefit $55 pa for the best windows! (if you are lucky) The USA changed material due to energy crisis in the 1970's and steep increase in electricity costs followed by regulations by the govt. Re: SIngle Glazed tilt and open ?? 5Nov 15, 2007 8:33 pm If anybody heard a dull thud about 2PM WST, it was my jaw hitting the floor. Missus and I went to visit the showroom of a uPVC tilt/turn windows supplier, and it was the reaction to the news that such windows cost 3 times as much as the AL mid-range ones, between 30 and 40 k for our small 160m2 house . We loved the windows on display, they look and work great, but unless we win Lotto between now and the start of building, we can only (wet) dream about them . The very nice sales-lady told us that her firm cares mainly for a niche market of bloated plutocrats. What a pity! As you would already know, the tilt and turn windows you see in Europe are uPVC. We only manufacture 'tilt and turn' in PVC double glazed, but would you mind giving us a try for a price? I've e-mailed Simon with an initial inquiry, about suitability of your windows for the walls that we've chosen (Energy-Lite panels). I'll be getting the pricing for the project shortly and if there's any slack left for fancy stuff, I'll ask your outfit for a quote.
