Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Aug 25, 2010 11:24 am Hi Everyone, I need some help as my husband has no idea (but thinks he does lol) I am building a new home and the windows and garage door is black and the home is rendered a soft beige. Inside I have painted the walls in Dulux Raw Cashew colour (beige), Ceiling Dulux Soft White, and all the internal doors and skirting is Dulux Cotton White - I love neutral colours! Now I want the front door to be black to match the garage door and windows but the then I want it painted to beige to match the interior...............what does everyone think of a two toned door? Outside Black and Inside Beige? Will this look silly? Thanks for your help Seda Re: Front Door 2Aug 25, 2010 11:33 am Our painted front door was two toned in our old place and in the rental here. Our old door was a dark blue gloss on the outside and a cream gloss on the inside. At the rental it's a lovely shade of dark orange to match the roof/gutters (house is a lighter orange render) and the inside is a gorgeous apricot/yellow sort of colour to match the interior. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Front Door 3Aug 25, 2010 11:36 am I have black front double doors on the exterior, and they are painted gloss white (the same as the rest of my woodwork) on the inside. Looks fine, and you cannot see any white on the outside, nor any black on the inside. Exterior (please excuse the Chrissy decs, it's the only ones I could find!) EDIT: Reading your post again, wouldn't you want the inside of the front door to be cotton white to match the rest of your internal doors and skirtings? Why paint it to match the walls when the rest of the doors are a different colour? Especially since the skirting and archs around the door will be white? If that makes sence!!! It has really helped me and yes I am now going to paint my door just like yours as your entry looks very similar to mine. Thank you very much once again. Re: Front Door 5Aug 25, 2010 12:00 pm beware of painting your door black! Check with the manufacturer. . . some don't offer a warranty if you paint your door black, as the dark colours can warp the door when it's lovely and sunny. I speak from personal experience, we had our garage side-door painted Monument colour to match the roof (dark bluey grey). . . IT'S WARPED AS A BANANA! There are other threads here. . .check them out. Henley actually wouldn't cover our doors because I wanted them black. I have lived with black front doors for nearly 40 years and never had a problem! I guess it will depend on how much direct sunlight they get and for how many hours during the day (particually in summer). Mine face east and are shaded in summer from the large tree next door, so for the main heat of the day it's not a problem and they are in shade! If they faced north or west with no protection, I probably wouldn't do it! I also built in an established area with lots of trees, not in a relatively flatish and 'no tree' estate, so I think that might make a bit of a difference too. Good point I'd forgotten about! Re: Front Door 9Mar 01, 2011 11:32 am providing that the builders will do this for you i would say definitely go for it, i think you should get the featured look you want for both the inside and outside and i think this is the perfect solution Re: Front Door 10Mar 01, 2011 12:12 pm blueblueblue Stormy, Re: The door frame is painted so it's black on the outside and white on the inside (the black foam is weather strip) Is the bottom of your door frame also painted in two different colours? Hi Blue, no, I have a metal strip as the base plate of my door frame (which I hate and the builder wouldn't change...). On the other hand, the garage internal door (which is white on both sides) has a stained wooden base plate and hides all the dirt and scuff marks. I can't see any of the base plate for the door frame on my front doors from the inside. You would probably want it painted to match the rest of the frame (exterior colour), but keep in mind it will get constantly trodden on and liable to chip! White would probably be a big no-no as it would show up every speck of dirt! The stained wood works well. Not sure what other people have, though! EDIT: You can see the metal strip/base for the door frame in my first exterior pic, Blue. Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! But you will probably put a security on the front and that is what people will see from the streets. Frank @ Ecovista Building Standards; Getting It Right!
