Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Aug 18, 2010 4:42 pm I have been trying to find out about Veka products for double glazing and read the recent post which I found of benefit. We are considering Veka as it is considerably a cheaper option than companies offering Kommerling. Our concern is that it is as good as Kommerling, with the uPVC being adapted to Australian standards as our manufacturer says it is manufactured in China (therefore the price differentiation) although to the standards set by Veka in Germany. We are situated in Western Australia. Re: Veka 2Aug 30, 2010 2:08 pm Hi Maggieh, We have not used Veka at our double glazing facility in Sydney, but we have had good experience with Kommerling as profile. It will be helpful for you to obtain a UV weathering report from each of the suppliers, which will demonstrate the chemical compatibility of profile to Australian conditions. Basically, during the testing, a simulation of the weathering over many years occurs by exposing the profile to uv equivalent dose. A well balanced profile will not become yellow. To avoid this, some extruders add blue but this doesn't solve the problem. It depends on your priorities - if cost is a primary concern then maybe a cheaper option is better for you irrespective of quality. But if you are not prepared to compromise on quality, then it may be worthwhile to buy the more expensive windows and be confident about your decision. Maybe also consider window hardware - is it also made in China or elsewhere? What are your expectations about window hardware - how reliable do you think it should be and how often do you plan to open close your windows over the next 10 years? What about glass? Are the fabricators using a local supplier? After all, the majority of the area in the window is glass & not the frame.
