Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Aug 02, 2010 11:14 am hi all, newbie to all this stuff as ive just moved into a stand alone unit. the problem i have it that im a light sleeper and can generally hear road noise, but the main thing is my neighbours cause a ruckuss after hours and im powerless to stop them. i was looking into a solution to stop noise comming through my windows and had a quick look at some cheaper solutions such as stopnoise.com.au and magnetite.com.au stop noise have given a rough quote of around $1300 for a 2m x 1.8m window. i was wanting to add roller shutters aswell, but since i have to get approval from the body corporate i dont know the outcome yet. can you guys shed some ideas on what i can do. i wish i had the money to do proper double glazing any help appreciated for a new home owner and renovator Re: help with noise from windows for a new owner 2Aug 02, 2010 3:15 pm Hi there, What type of windows are you trying to improve? Timber, aluminium etc?? I am fascinated by your quote for secondary glazing, and I have heard that it does have a positive effect on acoustic performance. I couldn't comment on your quotes competitiveness as I am unfamiliar with that market, but I can comment with certainty that the price is not far off the supply price of a new window. Specifically a double glazed uPVC steel re-inforced window with flyscreen, reveals and hardware etc. You could feasibly dispense with the roller shutters all together as your acoustic improvement will be enormous. I beleve the reduction is touted to be between 33-43dB. Food for thought anyway. Good luck with it, Brad ---- Re: help with noise from windows for a new owner 3Aug 02, 2010 3:26 pm hi its for a timber frame window. can you tell me where you get the price for the new window replacement? i really only want to double glaze the two bedroom windows which are roughly the size 2m x 1.8 Re: help with noise from windows for a new owner 4Aug 02, 2010 3:34 pm Visionarii Brad Hi there, What type of windows are you trying to improve?
