Thankfully there are always Tim Tams Re: Do you have a picture of a sunscreen blind from outside? 10Jul 15, 2010 11:20 am joles No, no intrusion at all. I found window coverings almost the hardest part of building. They are an expensive mistake if you get it wrong so ask away! One tip I'd give anyone though is this. Do not rush into it. I found it really helpful to live in the house for a little while and get a feel for how rooms felt with furniture, where furniture was placed, where glare needed to be blocked and also how the light/sun moved through the room during the day. It made decisions much easier. As for our bedrooms...... have old doona covers in our bedroom windows. We got the living areas done first and haven't got onto the bedrooms yet, there's just so much else to do. The master bedroom faces north and both windows will have e-screens and then eyelet blockout curtains (not sure on colour yet). One minor bedroom window faces west and will have an e-screen and eyelet blockout curtains. The other two minor windows face south so will only have eyelet blockout curtains. They face into our backyard and there is 30m to our back fence and no visible houses behind us so privacy is not an issue. I would never have sheers for a few reasons. They don't really suit our house.... it's pretty casual and simple. And the main reason is that we have, and will always have cats. Cats and sheers do not mix! Thanks joles, window coverings are definitely the hardest part of building. We don't have cats but our master bedroom faces west and the minor bedrooms face east. So i keep wondering if by choosing sheers, i would be making a big mistake maybe i should just choose the sunscreen blinds what do i do??? [i]We built in Point Cook and are loving our new house. We have the sunscreen in a creamy white colour, then a blockout in the linen colour along with blockout linen coloured curtains. All our other bedrooms have timber venetians with sheer curtains over the top. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Do you have a picture of a sunscreen blind from outside? 12Jul 15, 2010 11:26 am mpcj I have curtains and sheers in the rest of the house - lounge, study and bedrooms. they look lovely, but I'm not doing them again. They can also get sun damage if pointing to the west - sp we've had to install blockout blinds infront of them. Thanks mpcj, your comments are much appreciated. Our master bedroom faces west and one of the minor bedroom faces east. The other guestroom we have faces north. From your post, it looks like sunscreen blinds are the way to go... You mentioned that the sheers block the air... you mean when you open the windows in summer? You also mentioned that they get damaged from opening and closing, i thought we would normally only open them if we were cleaning the windows..? mpcj It really comes down to personal preference and also the size of your windows too! Re: Do you have a picture of a sunscreen blind from outside? 13Jul 15, 2010 11:29 am Dreamhome, sounds like you think you want sheers..... but you are not sure. This is what I'd do in your position. Go to spotlight and get some el cheapo sheer frabric. Roughly pin it up over the windows you want sheers on, open it with pegs when need be.... and live with it for a month or two. Get a feel for whether the sheers work for you or not. If they do, then get them made professionally knowing you are confident in your choice. If they don't work for you, go for the e-screen blinds and you've only wasted a couple of bucks on some cheap sheer fabric. Window coverings nearly did my head in.... you are not alone! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. May i ask why you got the blockout roller as well as the blockout curtains? [i]We built in Point Cook and are loving our new house. The problem i am having is i need to decide what kind of tracks i need. If i will have sheers in the future, i will need the double tracks but if i have sunscreen blinds then i only need the single tracks which are cheaper than double tracks. Tell you what, it's harder than choosing colours for the house [i]We built in Point Cook and are loving our new house. Re: Do you have a picture of a sunscreen blind from outside? 16Jul 15, 2010 11:38 am Only because I dislike the look of roller blinds by themselves. I am a curtain girl - always think they "finish" off the window. Have even put DH on notice that we will eventually be getting pelmets over all our roller blinds in the living / dining / toy room as I can't stand seeing the top of the blinds (yes I know they are neatly installed within the architraves but I still don't think they look finished). Some things are worth waiting for. You can just pin your test fabric to the top of the architrave around the window (pin pointing to the ground). It will never be seen once you take it off. Have you done the display home rounds lately to check out some options in the flesh? I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Thanks mate. Yeah good points!
