Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jul 13, 2010 11:28 am Hi, Have just had a quote for replacement upvc windows-(4-12-4 low e argon) 22 sqm approx at $17000. Installation includes removing old and also new front and back doors and new frames and is $12300 with builder. We are in very expensive building area- so does this seem okay? If we want more quotes for install do we get them from another builder or from a carpenter? Not sure builders are really keen to quote on these smallish jobs. Any advice greatly appreciated. Sparks Re: replacement upvc windows 2Jul 13, 2010 12:27 pm Would you please clarify? Are you talking about the cost of new windows and their installation, or just about the price for removing the old and installing the new ? I've paid $1800 for installation of 35m2 of double glazed windows, in the new house. Unless removal of old ones is very hard ?? Are they AL or timber ? My PVC windows were installed by a bloke who's got his own PVC windows outfit (imports assembles and installs them) here. You may be best off by splitting the job - get someone to remove the old windows and have the new windows' supplier to install. I suppose we could fill the holes temporarily with ply. Did installation go smoothly- is there anything to be aware or careful of ? Was price in Australia the only reason you didn't buy from your installer guy in the first place? Keeping some ply or even building foil handy is certainly a good idea. My installation was a breeze, all windows went in in one shift even though some of them were quite large, 2500x3600 and very heavy. Quote: Was price in Australia the only reason you didn't buy from your installer guy in the first place Yep, I just couldn't afford Ozzie prices. His were quite competitive, but he openly admitted that he couldn't match what I had paid.
