Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jul 08, 2010 9:49 am Am doing a reno on an old double brick 40's style home. The 2500 x 1500 meter wooden sash window is had it and i want to place ally window frame totally across it. Did these older style homes have lintels or do they just rely on the window supports in the middle to brace the brick work - surely not? I just want to avoid threading needles and destroying half the wall just to slot an ally in. Any suggestions would be good. Re: Old 40's style home alloy window replacement 2Jul 08, 2010 11:21 am It would be normal for the brickwork to be supported across the width of the opening by a lintel. This can usually be seen from the exterior. It would not be normal for the window mullions to provide any support.
