Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jun 20, 2010 12:10 pm Here is a photo of some scratches on one of our windows, we are at frame stage and I want to know if I should do anything about the damage. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ It is very minimal, however, we have paid good money for this house and I don’t particularly like the idea of having damaged goods. We had one of the temporary fencing fall over in the recent storm and rip some of the wrapping, not sure if these scratches were there before this incident but what should I do about the window, will they fix it? How can they fix it when they are powder coated? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Will it get fixed 2Jun 20, 2010 12:26 pm Are yours aluminium windows? Seems this is only a surface damage ATM. On top of small scratches like this, ours have lots of deep rusty scratches and dents that go way pass the top coat. Not sure if it can really be fixed - but check out my Window Service thread for more info. Did anyone else have any dents and deep scratches and were they successfully masked/fixed?? This doesn't seem to be a wide talked-about problem, but I cannot imagine many houses escaping this kind of damage. My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Will it get fixed 4Jun 20, 2010 1:44 pm Maybe they can/will use a touch-up paint. Don't think they'd do anything else. Probably an issue for PCI. Built with New Generation (Summit Homes) We own land!... with a slab on it! Plus a shell of a house with stuff inside ! Re: Slight damage to powder coated window. Will it get fixed 5Jun 20, 2010 3:12 pm PD have a guy that comes out after the build and touches up damage to window frames. I had a big dent on one and some scratches and once he was finished there was no evidence of any repair at all. Re: Slight damage to powder coated window. Will it get fixed 6Jun 20, 2010 3:51 pm A window service is a normal part of the process towards the end of the build - not many houses would escape some kind of damage to windows, whether scratches, damaged rubber seals, bent frames or broken hardware. As Mozzie said, repairs (or replacements, if it's major damage) should be taken care of prior to PCI, and you'll never know there was ever a problem. Just keep a list of defects - with photos - so that nothing gets overlooked. Re: Slight damage to powder coated window. Will it get fixed 7Jun 20, 2010 5:59 pm That's what I thought, all damages should be fixed towards the end. I like the sound of "you wouldn't even know it was there!". However, we already had the Window Service. The only evidence of it is a sliding door that actually slides (and easily) and a tiny 2-sided "brochure" with basic manufacturer's info and sign&date that the Service has been done. None of the windows have been adjusted at all - they are harder to pull than the large heavy doors!! Also have some awning windows which squeak and make noise when you're winding them I hope that there is a Window Damage/Smooth Operation Service !!! Will it get fixed 8Jun 21, 2010 10:24 am Yeah my site supervisor also gave me the 'window service' spin. Told me they clean all the tracks and get all the paint off the inside of the window frame... Absolute bollocks. They did none of that - all they do is fix scratches and dents. PD never let the truth get in the way of a good story if it sounds good to the customer.
