Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jun 08, 2010 4:49 pm This forum has helped me heaps. Some knowledgeable posters on here. Eastern suburbs Melbourne. New build Gange-Design. Psuedo OB. Builder is great, flexible. Checked out a lot of PVC double glazing. The seams/joins looked very cheap to me. Looked at Ed's at Ecoclassic, and Certainteed ($50,000). The Certainteed was expensive, and looked the least impressive to be honest. Also, their handles on their sliders were not safe and thought-out. Wes at Certainteed is a gem though. Passionate about the environment, and could talk to you for hours about energy efficiency. I do have patients that swear by Certainteed it must be said. If I was to go with PVC, I would look at Brad from Visionari's seamless PVC range. Quote came in at $50k like Certainteed, but was too late (8 weeks). I would have liked to have seen his product etc. Ed's Aluminium thermal break stuff looks very good. This is in his upper range, and came in at $35,000). Ed is passionate, and it is comforting to know that you are dealing with the boss who is hands-on. I did not go to Miglas until the end. I thought they were going to come in at double Ed's quote. I got a quote for fun and was gob-smacked. Only 41-44,000. Aluminium exterior with Vic-Ash or Tas Oakinterior. Quality mechanisms in the bifolds. Anatole is the 2nd generation Polish immigrant who has taken over from his old man years ago. Like Ed, its in his blood. Anatole had a long chat with us year ago, one Sunday at his time and expense. Basically advised us that he makes a quality product and you pay accordingly. Anatole was the opposite of a "pushy salesman". Like Ed, his knowledge was fantastic. I have been dealing with Peter Nixon at Miglas who is patient and knowledgable etc. Even after I paid the deposit, he invited/encouraged changes. Moral of the story is that you get that quote, even if you think it might come back over your capacity. This is one of the reasons I decided to go overseas for my double glazed windows. As the builder indicated, he's worked on many upmarket builds, these were the most well… 13 19077 For your reference Performance Labels: Window assemblies in housing, except timber windows, must be labelled so the label can be seen when it is in situ.
