Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 May 27, 2010 11:59 pm For years the window industry believed the glass suppliers that all the scratched glass was caused by the window industry or by homeowners scratching glass, then about 5 years ago the word got through to Australia from the outside world, it's a fault in the tempering process which creates embedded "fines" which are picked up during cleaning and they scratch the glass. I was fooled too... Well the new one is laminated Low-E glass... a recent phenomenon is spontaneous cracking, which the glass manufacturers and suppliers have said is caused by partial shading of the glass, where sunlight on one portion and shadow on the rest, causes thermal stress, which causes cracking... Well the outside world has spoken again... and they say it's caused by a difference between inside and outside temperatures... funny that... since that is what the glass is designed to create and maintain. Sorry I know no more... but it's worth noting, just in case you have the problem or you were thinking of using laminated Low-E. And if you think you may use non-laminated low-e, think again, it's difficult to clean and the surface is easily damaged... I guess it it was caused by differential shading it could be God's problem, but if it's caused by different inside and outside temperatures it may be someone else's... I wonder who? This isn't me trying to promote double glazing... but Low-E is generally promoted as the alternative... so you could go for the real thing and get DG. Ed I'd love to...you helped me when we had this dilemma. We have to have A&L windows and they don't offer them in a sliding. Too late now. deal is done. Would've like DG as we're on a corner on a main road and the majority of the windows are north facing. oh, well 1 6558 4 6168 If you can calculate the reasonable charged head from let's say 100mm below the gutter to the top of where the vertical riser's horizontal discharge pipe will be, that… 11 17513 |
