Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 May 18, 2010 12:07 pm I just needed some advice on how much this would cost me and if this is a good idea. We are going to move in to the house and have no idea how to fit all of our furniture thru the doorway. Even the back door is narrow and the internal door leading to the garage is narrow. I wouldn't mind having a wider entrance anyway, but since we can't fit the furniture I feel forced to do this asap. Any price range for this? Any other suggestions? Thanks! Re: Widening my front entrance door 2May 18, 2010 12:11 pm I don't know how much this will cost but I definitely think this is worth doing for as you said to help get furniture through. Some sofas can be a nightmare to get through doorways. Check with your builder. Do you have a sidelight? You could get that removed and make your door bigger. Hi, Not sure where you are, but as a guide, Doorsplus in Sydney is running a sale on fitted doors just now http://www.doorsplus.com.au/document.aspx?id=15 showing a fitted door set with sidelights is about $2000, and a single door $450-$600 depending on style. Cheers Re: Widening my front entrance door 4May 18, 2010 8:58 pm Do you have a sliding or bifold door in your house - most new houses now have one thru a family/rumpus or dining area - we bought all our furniture in thru the double sliding doors to the family room - easy. Of course, you have to be able to access your back yard to do this - say thru a rear roller garage door or a back gate - or bring the furniture in before you put the fences up Of course your internal doors are still going to be standard size so you still have the probelm of getting furniture into the rooms once you get in the house - we found the sofa was relatively easy (lounge room has larger opening via internal bifold doors); beds can be quite tricky though Re: Widening my front entrance door 5May 19, 2010 3:38 pm Too bad we don't live in Sydney to take advantage of the door sale. Our house is over 15 years old and doesn't have sliding doors, only a single door leading to the backyard. So we still have the problem with getting the sofa, dining table, and huge Ikea bookcase in. I might have to get a builder in to give me a quote. Thanks guys! Re: Widening my front entrance door 6May 19, 2010 3:39 pm What about a window. Could you have the window removed to get the furniture put in and then put it back afterwards?
