Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Feb 03, 2010 11:13 am Hey all I am in need of some advice. Our original plans had 3 hallway windows of 9 wide and 18 long. On inspection today the windows installed are 6 wide and 6 long. The hallway is 1.2 m wide and and about 7 m long. Do I tell them to change it to the longer narrow windows? or leave them as they are? We have the 6x6 windows in out dining room also. Re: Hallway Windows.. what size? 4Feb 03, 2010 11:56 am That's a big difference going from 1800x900 mm windows to 600x600 mm windows. It would really change the look of the hallway and the outside of the house. My main concern would be about lighting levels in the hallway. Would the hallyway now look dark and dingy? I assume things like outlook and ventialtion are not relavent in a hallway. So it comes down to lighting. One good thing about smaller windows is that you get better thermal insulation and you have more wall space to hang pictures. Thank you for your input, I have been assured that the lighting situation would be ok, as it is on the boundary we would be looking at a fence and the neighbours would see inn without blinds... I guess in most hallways there is not windows as it is between rooms. We decided to keep the smaller windows and it will also flow to the dining room as they have the same windows. Thank you for your help, it has given lots of positives. =) Building a new home.. paranoid about colour selections.. - Slab Poured December 2009 - painted, tiled, plumbing installed, shower installed, kitchen installed... I would love any feedback The difference in size is considerable and if you decide to keep the smaller windows I would be asking your builder/supplier for a refund. Personally I've always like narrow and tall windows in hallways but your tastes maybe different. If the windows have already been installed do they look ok to you? As already stated smaller windows will provide better insulation properties. I also consider the internal window coverings issue (1.8m high x 0.9m wide is a fairly common size = lots of choices) and any council building/planning approval problems before the house goes much further.
