I know what your saying. and I agree with you.
Does that mean you should paint your timber frame before putting plaster on it.

Hmmm ... the answer would be obvious (too easy ) ... and I also see your point! Maybe it's oh-kay My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: should all doors be painted on the top and bottom....... 43Apr 15, 2010 4:35 pm OMG I just checked my doors. NONE of them are painted top and bottom, not a one! I rang the builder who said they only do external doors and wet area doors top and bottom.! I am going to email them now to make sure they get someone out to at least do this! Re: should all doors be painted on the top and bottom....... 44Apr 15, 2010 7:32 pm Maybe you could also state the relevant standard that has been ignored. Then they can see that you mean business and are not asking for it just because it might "look" prettier. Good luck! My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: should all doors be painted on the top and bottom....... 45Jan 25, 2011 8:43 pm Sorry to drag up an old thread. Just wondering if anyone had any luck in changing their builders minds and getting them to paint the top and bottom of their doors after handover? I noticed mine were not painted after I moved in 2 months ago and the builder fobbed me off and said to wait until 6 month maintenance time Anyone won in the challenge with their builder to get the doors taken off, painted and re-hung. What a job! Re: should all doors be painted on the top and bottom....... 47Jan 26, 2011 7:02 am We recently had the builder's carpenter fix something and he got the shock of his life when he checked our tops and bottoms (well, I mean the doors' tops and bottoms) and noticed that they are painted (even though, IMO, ever so lightly ). Regardless, I think I'll give it another coat some time, JIC, especially in wet areas. My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: should all doors be painted on the top and bottom....... 48Jan 26, 2011 5:08 pm The builder replied to my request and said to wait until 6 month review. So i have printed and filed that email. I don't understand why these tradies cut corners like this. Surely, it's not too much to ask for to get the job done correctly first time around. Although this actually looks to be a pretty common problem among many painters. Re: should all doors be painted on the top and bottom....... 49Jan 27, 2011 2:36 pm You would find it`s not necessarily the builder but the painter himself. He would quote the builder "x" amount to do all doors, top and bottoms,do 3 coats of paint etc When the painter turns up you will find he slaps one thick coat of paint on the door surfaces that are visible to you once it`s hung. He does this to all doors then goes on to his next job to collect the money from that job instead of spending some time and doing a proper job on your doors. The painter just wants a quick in and out to get his money,it`s not his house and chances are he will get away with it 99 times out of a hundred `cause who is gunna really check it, so he doesn`t care. In the worst case the bottom edge must be shortend which can be easly repainted without the need for a painter. Otherwise the door leaf should come with a matching frame. Change is what we need! I checked our front door to confirm and it doesn't have paint. I'm going to contact a painter. I understand the logic that it can help stop moisture but I never really thought of that during building. Re: should all doors be painted on the top and bottom....... 55Mar 12, 2011 9:50 pm if different color pallet match with each other and your lighting is good then it may looks good, otherwise you should change. Re: should all doors be painted on the top and bottom....... 56Mar 14, 2011 7:36 pm I had my 6 month maintenance check and pointed out to the SS that none of my 13 internal doors and 2 external doors have been painted top or bottom. 4 weeks have passed since that meeting and apparently the painter is returning later this week to do all my touch up painting jobs including taking off 15 doors, painting each top and bottom and rehanging them. I was told by the SS that it "only needs a light coat of paint and generally the painter does paint them" . I'm actually not that concerned about it really, it's just that our builders have ticked me off so much that I'm making them do this Re: should all doors be painted on the top and bottom....... 57Mar 14, 2011 8:29 pm I was told when I went to a home building expo through Home Expo in Subiaco Perth, that when we do handover, get a mirror and look at the top and bottom of your doors to make sure the painter has painted them, as they need to be sealed due to moisture.... Re: should all doors be painted on the top and bottom....... 58Mar 15, 2011 5:18 am All this would happen if they would stop doing things the ancient way. In Europe ready painted doors out of the box complete with adjustable hinges, locks, handles etc..are standard for decades Installed once the walls are done there will be no damage on them and no painters mucking around on them in the dusty building environment. Change is what we need! Can we? YES WE CAN!!!!! Re: should all doors be painted on the top and bottom....... 59Mar 16, 2011 6:41 am Ah yes, the lift off hinges in Europe on all doors ... *sigh*. And the hinges were indestructible. Our doors here have been taken off a few times already and they are all twisted from too much handling and screwing them back on , and the pin can't go down the hinges any more ... so now they are sort-of hung - probably not good for them. We do have a few lift-off doors, but unfortunately they are not as easy to handle as those in Eu (seems like there is not enough room to twist and lift ). Re: should all doors be painted on the top and bottom....... 60Apr 01, 2011 3:59 pm FYI -> I signed my contracts with Henley yesterday and they explicitly state that ONLY the front / entrance door is sealed / painted top and bottom and ALL internal doors ARE NOT. So it's written in the contract. I informed them that this is contrary to what Corinthian state is a requirement of warranty and she was very surprised by it. They said they were going to look into it. We'll see! Building Standards; Getting It Right! These can be easily filled and repaired and it doesn't cost them much to do. Id get the builder to do this first and if the repair is not suitable then a replacement is… 12 31229 Thanks Ardo, they are sort of semi concealed. I think it is only a few millimetres. I see if they can adjust the hinges. 4 3765 |
