Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jul 17, 2007 10:57 am I need to know some views on our front entry.
We have the Corinthian PMAD101 (with vertical strip of glass) included for free from our builder. We have 2 options: 1 - get clear glass sidelights (almost 20cm wide either side of the door) and clear glass in the door and put a translucent film on the sidelights and door glass later so you can't see straight in (like frosted). The glass sidelights comes from the window company (Southern Star) and their "translucent" doesn't match Corinthian's so I think the 2 different ones next to each other would look odd. So it all has to be clear and treated later. 2 - get Corinthian to put translucent glass in the door, and pay $766 for Corinthian matching translucent sidelights (PMADSL101). This is the option I think would look best but I'm not sure if it's worth the cost? Either way we want frosted/translucent glass so that people can't see straight in, and I don't want to be fiddling with blinds there. HELP! Ray. We have contracts tomorrow and need to know by then! Second Time 'Round Re: Which would look better??? 3Jul 17, 2007 11:14 am I have never used the self frosting stuff so don't know how hard or easy it to use......Friends of ours did their front door and sidelights themselves and it looks really good.
We have gone for the builders option of having them do it, can't remember how much extra it cost I just know that if it were left up to us to do we would prolly never get around to it Re: Which would look better??? 4Jul 17, 2007 11:22 am You've got your answes there Ray -
It's really a case of - do you want to spend the exrta dollars now for a permanent solution - or do the DIY later. Have you seen the frosted stick on stuff - Long term it has the risk of being damaged - but it also has the advantage of being changed As a guide - My place has the 80's yellow bottle glass in the door (YUM) but It'd be nice to just simply peel off some stick-on stuff and change it Steve Re: Which would look better??? 5Jul 17, 2007 11:28 am We're going for clear glass but instead of a frosted film, we're going to get a darkish relflective tint put on. Re: Which would look better??? 6Jul 17, 2007 11:37 am spend the $766...It's your front door...the first impression to your home!
and putting on the film is time/money/hassle down the track.. for the sake of a few hundred you might save yourself thinking "wish we had have done that" EVERY time you walk in the front door! Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Re: Which would look better??? 8Jul 17, 2007 2:38 pm Thanks for the quick replies guys!
I'm seriously starting to stress about making sure everything is 100% right, worth it and the way we want it! I think we'll opt for the matching sidelights (says she without consulting DH) so that it's all the same. The matching sidelights have a thicker wood surround around the glass, but it matches the strip of glass in the door. Otherwise I assume (according to the drawings) the sidelights would have a wood strip join about 1m high with glass above and below. Ah what the heck - it's only money right? (I seem to have said that a lot lately!) Ray. Second Time 'Round brokers will also be in a position to get you a better rate than the advertised rate most times. 6 7566 No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed. I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 11584 Interested in getting either the Polytec Boston Oak or Palace Peak for kitchen cabinets. Looking at the Boston Oak ones, it appears that the colour varies significantly… 0 9167 |
