Browse Forums Windows & Doors Re: Which oil would you use? Western Red Cedar window frames 21Nov 02, 2009 11:15 am Thanks! Will stick to the DWD then =) Always worth checking as I had heard that the oil is easier to apply. I'd prefer the longer lasting, beautiful wood to the easy application =) And yeah, we took the doors off to seal bottoms and tops. Unfortunately can't do the same with the windows!! We can get in to most of the side frames, but there are some sections where the house frame is just too close. We've done the bottom of all awning windows They look awesome with the DWD! the wood is such a beautiful product Re: Which oil would you use? Western Red Cedar window frames 22Nov 02, 2009 2:26 pm Dukekamaya Personally I would have used Sikkens but I am saying its the best period Dukekamaya, what is it about the Sikkens that makes it a better product IYO? I've used DWD (the whole 'trishield' system in fact) in the past but did note that it was quite 'thick'. As our new house will have an exposed timber balcony plus some smick timber posts for the rear deck and probably some nice timber steps too I'm keen to treat them as nicely as possible. Re: Which oil would you use? Western Red Cedar window frames 23Nov 02, 2009 5:15 pm Through my own experience in using it. Most the builders I deal with use it and a couple of master painters I know recommend nothing else Re: Which oil would you use? Western Red Cedar window frame 24Apr 22, 2010 6:15 pm Not sure if anyone still following this thread which is pretty old now, but I have a couple of related questions which I have posted on a new thread without much response so far. We are most likely going with Sikkens products for our Western Red Cedar windows and bi-folds, not because we are convinced it is the best but our painter likes the product and we like the painter. Our painter has recommended Supernatural over Cetol HLS, the Sikkens rep recommended Cetol Filter 7+ ovedr Cetol HLS but warned it would have a lot more sheen on the finish. Any thoughts out there on Supernatural v Cetol Filter 7+? Also, we have a Tallowood floor (oiled) leading to the bi-folds and we wanted to pick a stain that would tone down the red in the western red but be as light as possible. Any suggestions? If you paint it on site it will never be near as good as done in the factory. All our timber joinery is delivered with 3 coat applied in the factory. This is not just better surface quality (smoother) but also more cost efficient compared to employing a painter on site. Site delivery of unfinished joinery is quite a poor habit within the building industry. Change is what we need! Can we? YES WE CAN!!!!! I’m restoring all my 40yr old windows and I want to install seals around the casements. I’ve sanded back and oiled the frames with sikkens. My plan is to box up inside… 0 6522 That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 17895 Plasterboard Gyprock is very popular as a reveal liner these days. You need to provide a way of supporting it, we use a modified timber reveal or bracket. You will be… 1 4764 |
