Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Oct 28, 2009 10:52 pm Ok so not strictley doors or windows but it about glass so I thought this was the best place to ask this. Our house will be U shaped, and upstairs will be 2 sections in the U bit that will have floor to ceiling glass walls, 1 of which will form a wall that is part of our ensuite so I need to know how I can tint it so that people can't see in. What is the best one to use?? I hope I have explained myself properly ____________________________ Bec ____________________________ Building our Balinese Resort Inspired Dream Home Blog ~ http://hagarshouse.blogspot.com/ Re: Tinted Glass for Privacy 2Oct 28, 2009 11:03 pm I would suggest getting your builder to use tinted glass in all windows in QLD. I have film tinted (like car tint)key windows in homes and been very happy too. I guess it depends on what light/UV/heat reduction you are after. Car Tint is normally 20-35% light transmitting so it keeps down the light/glare/heat. No tint will stop vision at night if you have lights on though Re: Tinted Glass for Privacy 3Oct 28, 2009 11:10 pm oh ok thanks, I was more focused on the privacy aspect than thermal as the glass wall will be an external wall but also a wall to our ensuite so I might have to come up with somethings else as I don't want the next door neighbours seeing me in the nudie at night ____________________________ Bec ____________________________ Building our Balinese Resort Inspired Dream Home Blog ~ http://hagarshouse.blogspot.com/ Re: Tinted Glass for Privacy 4Oct 29, 2009 6:53 pm Tint at night will let your neighbours see you but you won't see them... There is a film by lumisty that does what you want but it's about $1,000/m2 Other than that, venetians would be the way to go. Frosted film will give privacy, but then you can't see out during the day (if that matters). Ed Ok thanks ed, hmmm that would make it $8k to tint that sheet of glass I'll have to pass that on for a vote I think. neil_se As has been said, no standard film will give night time privacy, there's just too much of a light imbalance. I imagine it would be very costly though. It's called "switchable" glass it's a special purpose glass offered by GJ James Glass Switchable Switchable glass is a laminated product that transforms clear glass into an opaque, non-transparent screen with the flick of a switch. This allows the user to control vision and privacy or regulate daylight as desired. This glass is a laminated product which uses liquid crystals encapsulated within the interlayer. When inactive, the crystals are randomly scattered rendering the glass opaque. When switched on, the liquid crystals align themselves allowing light to transmit through the glass. Switchable glass is ideal for use in boardrooms, internal partitions, shopfronts or as a high clarity large projection screen. ____________________________ Bec ____________________________ Building our Balinese Resort Inspired Dream Home Blog ~ http://hagarshouse.blogspot.com/ Re: Tinted Glass for Privacy 10Nov 02, 2009 2:12 pm Have any of the men on the forum used the urinal in the pub in Cairns where, thanks to some one way glass, you can see into the restaurant area while standing at the men's facility? Now I'm concerned about what would happen if someone hits the light switch in the eating area while I'm relieving myself. Hadn't thought about that before I read this thread. Thanks, guys, now you've spoiled it for me, cubicals for me from now on !!! Pfiff Finally making progress again, with a clothesline (yippee) and some much needed little things being attended to over the holidays. 40 C on New Year's eve? We love our a/c! Thanks, guys, now you've spoiled it for me, cubicals for me from now on !!! There's a pub here in Adelaide that has that glass on the toilet cubicle doors. The glass transitions from clear to opaque when you latch the door - it's very unusual !! I imagine it could work quite well in a residential setting, if the price was reasonable. Hi guys We have just removed a very large grape vine which was mounted to a structure along this wall. This is a shared wall with our neighbour, and after removal, we… 0 3172 Need to remove glass panel out of concrete without wrecking the glass to get the spa room in, any recommendations on how to do that.
