Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Oct 13, 2009 3:21 pm Anyone had any problems with their aluminium windows? As in the quality and the way they have been manufactured??? If you're considering purchasing from ****** St8r Windows, pls DON'T. We are currently going thru a battle to have these windows removed as they are of very poor quality. There are visibile gaps at the mitre, seals are coming off, the aluminium is bent in some cases, windows do not close properly, or on the contrary they do not open properly, it's a nightmare. The windows look like they have been manufactured in someone's backyard with a hacksaw and tons of silicone, to hide all the gaps and mistakes. We are considering getting a 3rd party involved to inspect these "butchered" windows and hopefully the matter may be resolved. The AWA said they could send someone out for a pretty hefty fee, but if anyone has any suggestions as to how we can tackle this problem and get the results we want, because afterall we did pay lots of money and received "crap". Btw we are using a builder, who is letting us down at the moment and can't rely on him to fight our battle. He was the one that insisted we use that mob, and he happens to have a "good" relationship with them. Hmm...I wonder why? After ordering thousands of windows from them, the kickbacks must be nice!!! edited by moderator Re: Windows dramas - anyone have such problems??? 2Oct 17, 2009 8:46 pm I have Southern Star windows and doors, and I am really unhappy with the weight of the doors they seem really light and flimsy. My brother has a different company, I think Stegbar and they feel so much stronger. I know Aluminum is much lighter and more expensive but one of these windows has already been forced open and the frame buckled and I got broken into. It's really disappointing as this is who my builder uses and due to them not having a display home I had no idea. I am not sure whether they have different quality in their range, and whether my builder got the cheapest package. I am not sure what you can do, mine dont look poorley made, I just want them heavier. Re: Windows dramas - anyone have such problems??? 3Oct 17, 2009 9:26 pm Complain to the manufacture about the quality. Complain to the builder if they don't open or close... 90% of window opening/closing problems are poor installation. See me if you want better ones... Ed, we have complained extensively to both the manufacturer and the builder and waiting for a decision. The builder keeps saying he will do what is most effective for him, in other words - NOTHING!!! He really doesn't see anything wrong with the windows and thinks we are exaggerating somewhat. Easy for him to say, he doesn't have these ** windows in his house. So, we decided to get the building surveyor out to the site and inspect them. Pleased to say, the surveyor (heaven sent) agrees with us and is not at all impressed with the quality and installation! In other words he is very reluctant to issue a certificate of occupancy if these windows are not replaced & re-installed. Assuming and hoping we are able to get a refund; I am not keen on the same manufacturer supplying more windows; Ed, I will most certainly be contacting you. I have been reading up on your windows a lot and am very impressed. Will keep you posted!!! Thanks I am not a brick expert, but rendering would be 1 option, it would be costly to do the entire house though.... 2 6664 Hi all, has anyone been ask to do the weeds in their property while in the middle of build?
