Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jun 21, 2007 2:30 pm I'm sure this is mentioned somewhere else on the forum but I can't find it. Any recommendations as to what to look for in attic/roof windows?
We want to open them - especially to let heat out at night in summer, but also need fly screens and some kind of blind to keep that pesky heat out during the day. Cheers, Helen Re: Attic/roof windows 2Jun 21, 2007 4:32 pm I don’t think you can beat the Sash windows for this purpose.
Depending how much sun comes in the windows at what part of the day will depend on the type of blind you will need. If full sun, you need a total block out. If only morning sun, partial block out. I guess it also depends on how well you are looking to dress these windows. A really good Holland Blind is probably all you need. ![]() Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Attic/roof windows 3Jun 21, 2007 5:12 pm This looks good...

There are different brands, and they all seem to be double glazed which is good. I was just wondering if anyone had installed any and if they had any tips. Re: Attic/roof windows 6Jun 21, 2007 6:39 pm That website is great EcoClassic but has thrown up more questions. For cleaning, the Velux central pivoting windows look the best - and not bad prices either - but then how do you keep the flies etc. out? Any thoughts? Re: Attic/roof windows 7Jun 21, 2007 7:47 pm Velux or Skylight, most builders I know say Velux are the best although they are a bit dearer being made in the USA Re: Attic/roof windows 8Jun 22, 2007 4:47 am ![]() That website is great EcoClassic but has thrown up more questions. IMHO having seen the Fakro unit it is exceptionally high quality and the top hung, awning style unit which is fitted with a heavy duty USA chainwinder will easily take an internal insect screen. Fakro claim (and I see no reason to doubt them) that they have 17% of the global market - which is pretty good since the started in 1991. They are made in Poland - but don't let that put you off - just pure quality and the price is fine. Cleaning? Cleaning with a ladder a tad difficult as we have a 3 metre verandah that side. (My partner just pointed out a verandah would make it easier! ) Thanks again for the information.
