Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Sep 17, 2009 12:19 pm Trying to decide on window furnishings seems to be a ridiculously hard decision (well at least for me) so was wondering what the majority of HomeOne-ians are doing these days: curtains or blinds? DIY? Custom made? Trendy or practical? Expensive or economical? So what made you choose what you chose? Caz & Co ALL MOVED IN!! Now comes all the hard work-decorating.... In saying that however we are having some simply because they are the only option for some of our windows. We are having timber look venetians across the front of the house - 12 in total; then 4 metallic venetians in the garage; 2 single roller blinds in the home theatre; another 4 single roller blinds then a couple of combo's of rollers over our 5 stacker and 4 stacker bifolds; the kids' toyroom slider is having panel glides; laundry a single roller; main bedroom double roller; main ensuite another timber look venetian. All four bedrooms will also have curtains as well as their venetians / blinds. So a real mixture here of everything. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Are you a curtain or blinds person? 3Sep 17, 2009 12:31 pm I know the fashion these days is blinds and they do look lovely in all the new homes on here, but I'm very old-fashioned and love the look of curtains. Besides which, my house is fairly tradiotional in style, so I think curtains suit the feel of the place much better. I had mine custom made and just picked them up the other day - haven't got to hang them yet because reno still in progress, but can't wait to see what they look like. I chose the same fabric throughout the house, but picked a cappachino colour for family area, silver for the formal rooms and a bronzy-sage colour for the master bedroom (looks heaps better than it sounds, LOL!!) MagicJ I finally have my own reno thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=28335 The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his tongue! Re: Are you a curtain or blinds person? 4Sep 17, 2009 1:15 pm Oh curtains for me. I can make ones for most rooms myself, can buy fabric well priced if I want to change the decor and re make them at any point. I got pre made ones for the big living/dining/games room - 10 metres of windows. They will stay for some time, but again, it's not too over the top to change. I'm not into spending thousands on window treatments and you can get pretty good quality ones for a good price. I am however plannning on putting some wooden venetions under the curtains in some of the bedrooms at some point. Budget all the way for me and versatility. Easy to install, change, redecorate etc... Re: Are you a curtain or blinds person? 5Sep 17, 2009 1:26 pm At the moment I would say vertical blinds, mainly because we have a lot of full length windows and they are the easiest to repair when the kids pull them down. Hopefully by the time we get around to window furnishings in the new house, the kids will have grown out of it and we can have something nicer! I've been looking at those insulating blinds (they are sort of a honeycomb design), but I'm not sure how durable they are. Re: Are you a curtain or blinds person? 6Sep 17, 2009 2:05 pm I"m having vertical ones put in - but they're only temporary! Once i can afford it i'll put something nicer up. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: Are you a curtain or blinds person? 7Sep 17, 2009 2:06 pm Curtains, cause they close more securely. You don't see blinds being used in theatres... Re: Are you a curtain or blinds person? 8Sep 17, 2009 2:28 pm We'll use a mix. Curtains to lounge / theatre and bedrooms. They block out more light and are more "formal". Blinds to the family room and other living areas, for a more modern look. Blog is now up - http://www.jbdave.blogspot.com/ Re: Are you a curtain or blinds person? 9Sep 17, 2009 3:23 pm In my last house, I used a mix of both, but not in the same way that others have described. I had wooden blinds to all the windows in the house, and then in the bedrooms I had a metal curtain rod over the window with plain coloured (creamy/beige) blockout curtains that I could pull closed.. I really liked the look of the wooden blinds throughout the house - the only thing against them is that they're not very good for keeping the heat in/out. P. Re: Are you a curtain or blinds person? 10Sep 17, 2009 3:25 pm I voted combination because I will have to see what needs blockout and what can manage without a heavy blind or curtain etc. Not sure yet. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Are you a curtain or blinds person? 11Sep 17, 2009 3:48 pm I am definitely a curtain person . Just love all the fabrics & colours available and how they soften a room. However, having said that I am soooo over having to vacuum & wash them I decided a while ago htat I wanted a low maintenance home, so I have gone in the opposite direction & installed roller blinds. For me they are funtional only, not attractive in the very slightest Especially the ugly roller mechanism at the top. I like the look and wanted something easy to clean (they have no holes and the slats pull out). We also have some white blockout roller blinds on windows that will get sun. And we went for curtains in our bedroom with a viewscreen blind. The kids rooms have blockout blinds which match their room colours. Also getting roller shutters on the bedroom windows shortly.
