What is the wind rating for your home (it should be on your plans)? What is the wind rating for the window you want? (ring Bradnams and ask). For certain you don't want a leaking window. Most homes are in locations rated N1 or N2 and all windows should meet this (N4 & N5 being at the high end of the scale).

Thanks for the information.
I checked the plans I received from builder, but couldn't work out which one has the "Wind rating" thing you mentioned.

The drawings I got are:
1. site plan
2. ground floor plan
3. first floor plan
4. elevations
5. elevation/cross-section
6. sediment control plan
7. concrete drainage plan
8. concrete slab plan
9. ground floor electrical plan
10. first floor electrical plan
11. kitchen
12. powder/laundry
13. bathroom / ensuite

Have I missed anything??

Ah yes silly me! I realized that I had emailed the Vic sales instead of WA. All fixed now. Yes sorry I just sent it off to the sales email you had listed, and not yourself directly.

Now I will just wait for Simon to get back to me.

Too much thinking about houses and we haven't even started building yet!

A question you may be able to answer -I imagine the best way to do it is for the builders to install & just arrange delivery through yourselves?

Hi Andrew,

Simon informed me that I would have to deal directly with Melbourne (I am guessing due to custom sizing). I will be in touch soon, with the specs to be quoted on, as we have change the spec for some of the windows recently.

One question though, can you deal with window sizing as specified on the plans by the builder or would I need to figure out the metric conversion?

What is the optimum air gap between glass panels?

I read somewhere that <12mm is useless and too wide you start to lose effectiveness.

Is a 20mm gap better than 14mm, better than 12mm gap?

Hi 007,

at least 12mm, 16mm is the best performance, above that you start to get convection and therefore the performance is less

If your not familiar with what windowexpert means by convection within the window here is a good diagram showing a double glazed windows performance properties.

I don't know how you do it, but certainly beat the pants of the other company that also quoted me!
