Browse Forums Windows & Doors Re: Window Coverings 21Dec 27, 2009 4:18 pm SO even though they look whitish in the photo, what colour do you see in real life? The whitish or the chocolate brown colour? www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Window Coverings 22Dec 27, 2009 4:25 pm You see the more chocolate colour. It also depends on the angle. Looking at them directly face on they look lighter. On an angle they look darker! I hope I'm not confusing you too much Here is a pic from more of the side and you can see more of the chocolately colour on the right hand side. I would imagine it would be the same sort of product from most suppliers. Thanks Bek! www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Window Coverings 24Dec 27, 2009 7:16 pm I'm intrigued by these blinds too. Sounds like a very good option to the Venetians. I take it that the spare room doesn't have the top pelmet, so some light is coming in there. Are these special blinds with a particular name? I decided that the best way to clean the slats is to take them out, rather than trying to do it in situ. Bit of bother, but a much better result getting the oily bits off. The spare room. kitchen and bedroom don't have a pelment, but in the master because of the corner window the blockout blind is actually on the outside of the window frame. I haven't had them that long so I'm not sure about cleaning them although I have just given them a wipe down with the duster. They are called double roller blinds, you can also get them on the internet or if you have standard size windows at Bunnings. Of course none of my windows were standard sizes so we had a company order and install them Bek I'm back Re: Window Coverings 26Dec 28, 2009 7:54 am What's the nice colour on the walls Bek? It's lovely. I absolutely love them and they look great. AshleeSiobhan any chance you could take a photo of your white sunshade roller blinds? I am now really undecided whether to go white/ivory or black from Spotlight. Decisions, decisions... btw anyone know if Spotlight do layby? Re: Window Coverings 28Dec 28, 2009 8:46 pm themax What's the nice colour on the walls Bek? It's lovely. (I'm such a chocolatey girl ) I think from memory it was called rose biege or something along those lines, it was a while ago sorry! I do love the colour though and I am also a chocolatey girl! I love that everything goes with it. I will definately go for the same colour schemes in the next place Bek I'm back Re: Window Coverings 30Dec 30, 2009 3:16 pm 83XT4 Bek - hi can I just ask if the blinds (which look Great) block the air flow? (I have cross ventilation issues) Hi there, When I have the windows open I tend to put both blinds up otherwise they can bang against the window frame which is a bit annoying. Luckily in the lounge we have a sliding door and it's close to our front door so we usually just have those open to get the breeze through. In the kitchen with just the blockout I roll it all the way to the top and open the window. This is probably the only negative I have with these, although I believe there would be a way to secure the sheer blind down the bottom so that when the window is open, it would bang perhaps!!?? What have you got at the moment or thinking of getting? Bek I'm back Re: Window Coverings 31Dec 30, 2009 4:52 pm The roller blinds here in our rental bang and drive me crazy. In desperation one evening I put a hair band around each ends of the rod. No more banging noise. They still moved in the breeze but the noise was minimal. I would imagine if you searched the hardware store you would find a little rubber ring that you could put around the ends, sort of like those coloured ones you put on your keys to identify one from the other. I wonder if a small silicon dot (or felt spot) stuck on the back of the rod at the exact spot that it hits the window pane would work? I think it would. I will try that. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Window Coverings 32Dec 30, 2009 4:55 pm themax The roller blinds here in our rental bang and drive me crazy. I am looking for a blind which I saw at a restaurant in Crown. It’s a blind just like a Venetian Blind but looked more like Plantation Shutters. Has anyone seen anything like this or knows what they’re called or who makes them or where I could go to get them in Melbourne. What have you got at the moment or thinking of getting? Thanks for answering so fast bek. What I have at the moment is too scary to describe. We are going to start renovating our old timber frame house and Im just cruising around looking for options This is a great site . So glad I found it , Im hooked! Thankks to everyone else who contributes. Re: Window Coverings 35Jul 15, 2011 8:23 pm themax We had timber venetians in the last house. I have to say that I do love the look of them, but the cleaning also got the better of me. It's a really cr@ppy job. I also found that they did not seal the window off , so to speak, and they let the light through the cracks in between the two blinds, and also at the edges. I don't know what I will put in the new house. Well I guess I will have plenty of time because the Bunnngs Redishades will be up for awhile as there will be no money left to buy blinds anyway Just to quote myself... and prove myself wrong...after a year and a half after moving in we have finally been able to afford and get installed the rest of our blinds. White timber venetians (5omm slat). LOVE THEM We did put a roller blockout in the main bedroom to blockout the morning sun (faces East). The venetians still do not block out all the light (as mentioned above) but they are ok. So if the kids start to complain about it I will add a curtain over them in their bedrooms... I am soooo happy to get rid of the Redishades. Now all I have to do is decide what to put over the sliding door, faces front at the balcony, facing West (hot). I am not a fan of curtains but I think it's my only choice. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Window Coverings 36Aug 11, 2011 6:22 pm themax, hi i am just now thinking of putting in either plantation shutters or the wide slat venetians. had a check out of a supplier not too far from me today, but the woman there was less than helpful . i remember reading, here or somewhere, about a company that was highly recommended by a number of people but i have lost my bookmark the window is one that gets a bit of street grime so white is probably not a good choice......but then neither are the pale floors and the dog so i am looking for a reliable and not too costly supplier for that window and potentially some roller blinds in another room .... and some canvas on a west facing windows. many thanks for any recommendations from yourself or anyone else. i am in northern sydney Re: Window Coverings 37Aug 11, 2011 7:34 pm We decided on plantation shutters for the front first half of the house top and bottom. Then the back we have fairly open plan so always wanted to be able to see out and just went rollers. Here's how we set the rollers up. The sun shade one looks black but it's kind of a mocha/deep brown with a texture. We went inside/outside and spend most of the time with just the sunshade (or is this officially a blockout?).
