Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Aug 31, 2009 8:52 pm Hoping to get some opinions... We need to get some exterior doors replaced - the front entrance door, and two sets of french doors. There is a bit of water damage and I expect that we will need to get at least one set of door jambs replaced. We got one quote for the work (including cost of the doors but not things such as handles and locks), and it was about $8000! Am I being unrealistic in thinking that's too much? Any ideas on how that breaks down in terms of labour versus materials. It's a Victorian-style place so maybe they're quoting based on special doors, but I'm tempted to just source my own doors (new or second hand) and then get a tradesman in to install them. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance, Indigo Re: Cost of getting doors installed? 4Sep 10, 2009 10:32 pm I was charged $400 labour to install a new front door. I supplied second hand door (art deco house) that they had to modify, hinges, locks and new marble for under the door. They also replaced door jams (I paid cost of materials). I am in Sydney. Great - I was hoping that we would be able to get someone in who could modify the size of the door as well as install (I'm not talking a lot - just a bit of planing to get the door short enough). Thanks - will report back when it happens, though that may be a few months away.
